I heard some Down, finally...

Down are a great band especially live and have seen them twice and it was well worth it.

I disagree their debut album holds up nicely, I didn't uch care for album #2, but the new album is growing on me...Just because it's not to your liking doesn't mean they are talent free. I know if they sang of satan, scarifice, wore clown make-up and sounded like every other Swedish black metal band they'd be good in your mind right?:lol::lol:

OMG someone disagrees with you...proceed to spout off annoying font filled bullshit

I think you might have a bit of sand in your vagina.

They really need to have a setting for automatically disabling text formatting, in order to deal with those occasional egomaniacs who think their posts are more special than everyone else's, and thus must stand out from the rest in an annoying fashion.

I've heard them, but just stuff from the latest one, I didn't really like it, if you hadn't told me it was Phil Anselmo on vocals it would've been easy to think it was someone else, like most people have said I prefer Pantera. Phil's vocals are good on all of Pantera's albums.

Based on the findings so far, you might want to reserve judgment on them until hearing their first album.

I have their third album and I enjoy it quite a bit. They're kinda like an amped up Audioslave but it's still a good album. I was dissapointed though because Phil doesn't sound anything like he did on any Pantera tracks.

they are nothing like audioslave. down is a black sabbath style band.

anyways i like all 3 albums. they are much better than pantera who had 2 great albums then dropped the ball

I don't know about their earlier 2 albums, but their third album is a lot like Audioslave. At least Audioslave's first album.

1. groovey, blues-based heavy rock riffs
2. vague, anthemic lyrics about destruction and redemption
3. hooks made for radio

I absolutely would not call Down a Black Sabbath style band based on their third album.

As for Audioslave being Radioslave... Down is just the same way. Probably trying to capture the same crowd.

And I really liked it. Maybe even more than I like Pantera. :)hypno: Blasphemy!)

A friend of mine brought his IPod over to another friend's house, and we all listened to Down for an hour or two. I dunno which albums or which songs were playing, all I know is that it sounded badass; it was reminiscent of the first three Black Sabbath albums in parts of the songs.
Down strikes me as really mediocre. Their style isn't really like Pantera at all, but people insist on drawing comparisons. Phil Anselmo is really good at saying stupid things ("New Orleans Is A Dying WHORE!!") and writing songs about getting high. The best parts of down songs is the bits where they rip off Sabbath.

Down is completely different from Pantera
Definitely. Pantera is good.

I enjoy some of their songs, but they get stale really fast. I don't have the patience to sit through an entire album.
Hell, I don't have the patience to sit through a whole song.

Yeah Wizard I would check out NOLA. Try the song "Stone the Crow" then work from there. Even my parents dig that song.
I'm suprised you haven't heard III yet Vihris, considering you have them in your sig. The last song on the album is pretty good the rest is total meh'.

 Of all the songs to start bluewizard on, that's definitely not the one. He would need to start with "Temptation's Wings", the one with the most screechy vocals.

I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually. But based on what everyone's been saying, it doesn't look like I'm really missing out on a quintessential Down experience or anything.

Glad to see love f/ they're first, still maybe my favorite. I finally got Over the Under, it's good, and in heavy rotation for me as of late. I've been kind of grading it against the first two, and it doesn't even compare, but still one of my favorites f/ last year.
They're music is so uplifting and makes me feel happy when I listen to it, very positive, but still heavy.
