I think Opeth has steadily declined since Still Life.

Opeth's not the most complex band out there. It's not about the compositional elements completely, you don't have to use different time signatures all the time to sound interesting or fresh.

...declined, heh:Smug:
I didn't follow the whole conversation, but I thinking about steady growth.
I have some doubts about the Watershed, but it's because the new O-musicians and their influences on music and instrumentation.

That's the first time I laughed out reading one of Philno's comments.

Seriously, I think Still Life has some great tracks (Face of Melinda is my fav by far) but the rest seems just a tad more repetetive and slow than the other albums and especially the drums "ruin" it for me most of the time. Too much monotony and reverb imo.
"My arms, your Blackwater Park Reveries" are my favs.

Deliverance highlighted Martin Lopez's amazing drumming ability and his personal creativity. Axe is great - Lopez is missed.

True. They're both great drummers, Lopez might have a style that's more recognizable than that of Axenrot's, but on the other hand the latter one's more solid type of player. I don't think he'll have that many problems with touring etc.
