ICED EARTH CONFIRMED FOR CHICAGO POWERFEST 2008

Well then...we obviously have a difference of opinion of what emo is. IMO, emo is more about lyrical content, attitude, emotional (hence emo) issues surrounding mostly relationship & inner self turmoil/crap  :p . The music part of emo is more of just a medium for that. Oh yeah, and don't forget the definitely fashion/fad elements that go along with it. ;)

IMO, Fugazi is most definitely NOT emo. To me, they were a punk band of sorts...one can even argue prog punk..if there is such a thing. ;)

So, please share, what is your take on what emo is?

spoken by a guy who was never in the punk / hardcore scene. Fugazi were one of the bigger emo bands out there.

Yeah...I admit it...not a fan of any of it...so I'm certainly not claiming to be an expert. So, what exactly makes Fugazi emo & how would you consider them linked to the emo bands of today? Please enlighten cuz I am curious.

Also, please share your interpretation/definition of what emo is, oh wise one. :p

I am far from a fan of any of it. If you think I give you guys shit, you should of seen me with the emo punk / hardcore bands. I was relentless. Fugazi were pretty much the innovators of emo hardcore. Most of the bands on the Dischord Label were all under that same style. The hardcore scene was pretty much divided into factions...kind of like the metal scene....you had straight edge, your NY street hardcore, crossover and emo. The emo was popular but not to the level it is today. Like all types of music...it comes and goes and when it comes back...it mutates into something a little different.
In the ealry 90's there was tons of emo hardcore and punk bands. All these bands that are making a fortune off it now have pretty much stole / borrowed all thier idea's from these acts. Just like the millions of power metal acts out there now who stole / borrowed thier ideas from Helloween and Iron Maiden. These newer acts that are called emo seem to be bad pop punk bands that couldnt cut it in the punk scene and went commercial. Just like all the shitty ass metalcore stuff. You are always going to have your true acts and your ones that will be succesful / commercial but they have zero staying power. Those bands will come and go until the next trend hits.

Not trying to see who would draw more. Power Quest would. I dont get why a fest has to have a certain sound? basically you are limiting yourselves then.

Oh, but if we were to add a particular metalcore band which could realitically draw 10X more than TG & PQ combined, you're telling me you wouldn't complain then? Bullshit!

Bottom line is that neither TG nor PQ really has enough drawing power to draw any significant numbers beyond who's already coming because of IE and/or Testament. Therefore, unless PQ was willing to come over to play for free without any expenses paid, it would not be a good investment on our part...plain and simple. TG, on the other hand, is technically playing for free & has a sufficient following whether you want to believe it or not.

And it's not so much that we're going for a "certain sound", but if we really don't like a band, why would we invite them. We're not politicians...we don't just do things to make others happy. Remember, this is OUR fest...and we put together lineups of bands WE like...but also think many others will like too. And to exclude a VERY small number of fans because we don't pick one band over another when there's a financial risk involved is just simply a no brainer. If you don't see the logic in that, then...oh well.

Damn it!! Why do I always feel like I have to explain myself to you...when you make such comments that make it sound like you have no clue.

Fugazi were great, but if they are to emo what Sabbath are to doom metal.
They themselves were not emo, but HIGHLY influential to what emo became.

Anyhow, before Fugazi, there was Rites of Spring....
