Impulse FAQ :)

Still, there was no need for the rudeness, this is meant to be a community and I've done nothing to warrant a response like that.

Actually, you haven't seen rudeness and you have done something to warrant a response like that. This is meant to be a community, yes, but that doesn't mean we want to waste that much time repeating ourselves for everyone who doesn't know how to use a search tool.

So, you don't want to waste your time responding to me, yet it warrants a response like that? Anyhow, I found nevertheless them, I'm only human, we all make mistakes, I sincerely apologize to the community.

I actually didn't see your question until it had been answered, but in any case preventing repetitive questions saves more time in the long run than answering them.

All is well, just take advantage of what's already around - the reason this *is* a community is the massive number of awesome things that have already been said, and letting them go to waste is several different kinds of wrong.

Hey guys..I am trying to find an Ir program thats compatible w VISTA 64..I used the 'search" button w no luck?/-anybody know of one?

the cubase vst bridge (and reaper's) is capable of running 32bit plugs in 64bit-land.

tried a normal one? :p

Hey I'm a bit confused by one thing in the method of using IR's.

When you guys record, do you go through just your head without the cabinet? When I did this I just got the pre-amp gain and it just came out as fuzzy and weak, nothing from the power amp. I could us a power amp on Revalver, but from what I've gathered people are using for example Guitar > TS > 5150 > Impulse (no cab + no software power amp).

Im confuuused please help

xxxpete, just download the DLL and copy it to your plugins folder, the installer might not be vista 64 compatible.

AshM, that is correct, you're almost there! you use the pre-amp feed from your amp, straight into your interface. it should sound really fuzzy and unusable, try loading an impulse after it!

thanks,

Yup, it does, since the impulse is created by sending a sine sweep through a power amp, into a cab, picked up by a mic, into an interface

ashm, i don't wish to confuse you, just ignore this post, i'm only splitting hairs! hah

impulses aren't quite full emulation of the power amp. the power amp, when cranked, adds some compression/clipping to the tone as well as additional EQ'ing. impulses can only capture EQs, and hence they can't emulate the "saturation" of the power amp.

thanks,

Cheers guys! I'm correct in thinking that, to protect my head from any damage I need to have the cab plugged in anyway yeah? So to confirm, Guitar > TS > 5150 > Impulse, no power amp, just impulse as it was made through the power amp in the first place?

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while trying to soak up all these production tips and finally tried guitarhacks impulses last night. My setup:

guitar-> api3124+ DI -> Sonar 7PE audio track, armed and input echo on -> gate, TSS, Wagner MKII, then Boogex with guitarhack impulses.

I seemed to experience many problems:
1.) I had to turn the latency on my Aurora to zero to be able to play through Sonar
2.) Then couldn't play or record track with latency at zero.
3.) Guitar signal didn't "feel" right, if that makes any sense. Slight delay after beginning playing, lots of feedback when done playing (even with gate), no tightness or action to the sound, i.e. software not responding to my playing correctly.

I imagine this is just a latency issue?

Also, what is the point of using Wagner AND Boogex? When I disabled Wagner I still had use of impulses through boogex. Can anyone provide good settings along the chain? I saw earlier some simple settings for boogex gain, etc, but what is your tried and true way of getting slamming guitars with this setup?

I appreciate the help in advance and am so pumped to have found this forum. No other recording/gear forum has such in depth, good info with very helpful members!

Thanks again!

Hi guys, I have already made this question in other topic but I should made it here, sory :erk:

What happens when you add an impulse to a mic'd guitar track?

I know as anybody sayd before "you won't maker any damage" but do you think it works on any way? does it add something good to the sound??

thanks everybody, great thread

PD: why does nobody talks about the waves IR1 for the impulses??
