IN FLAMES new album being released by the end of 2016

Yeah but In Flames doesn't have keyboardist type of electronic sounds in their music. It's not like strings or orchestral parts are standard or keyboard solos and melodies and stuff like Children of Bodom. They really don't need a keyboardist in the band.

Well, you could say the same for the drums, rhythm guitar and bass. Why not program them all in and just have Anders and Bjorn on stage?

DT's sound, at least the last decade and especially last couple albums, have prominent keyboards in most songs, meaning they have keyboards driving the main melody in many songs. Soilwork as well, although it differs on albums, but they are more atmospheric in-the-background stuff that Sven does. In Flames doesn't have these types of sounds in their songs. CoB is both atmospheric and fast dual solos and harmonies with the guitar.

I really don't think In Flames could use a keyboardist live in a realistic way at all unless he's just gonna stand there doing nothing most of the time.

In Flames have keys all over their songs. They might be buried in the mix but they have plenty of them. As they are clearly interested in adding an electronic sound to their music, and have been increasing its usage since R2R, why not get in a keyboardist to make it more prominent?

What if In Flames was just trolling all of us like Joaquin Phoenix did? He retired from acting and started a rap career, and then revealed to everyone he was just joking and went back to acting. So that's what SC and Battles are and maybe the next one or two albums, and then after that they release a death metal album and blow everyone's mind. One can dream, right?

Battles is a release that is akin to a very, very, very drunken night out. While you’re experiencing it, it’s fun, exciting and filled with energy. But shortly after it’s over and you have time to reflect, you find yourself unable to remember a lot of it and become increasingly filled with regret about what you do remember, to the point where you question how you could actually enjoy it in the first place.

Battles is endlessly samey and unchallenging, feeling like a collection of ten repeated songs alongside two that are actually worth the cost of the record.

Yes sir, that's IF album alright.

One day, they fire the singer (who then goes forming Alt-emo-hipster pop supergroup with his vocal producer, keyboard player and drum machine, conquering all the 30-150 people venues), get a proper one, get a proper drummer, go Maiden style leaving Bjorn and Niklas, but rehiring Jesper thus enabling Bjorn to play dat superhard 100 layers of guitars live, and release the mighty Colony II: The New Flame, with booklet spelling it like "Colony II: The New Fame".

It’s bizarre to think that twenty years ago, In Flames was one of the most treasured acts in the then-raging Gothenburg death metal movement.

It is important to clarify that this experience is absolutely horrid. In Flames is one of the greatest death metal bands in history and their later, less heavy work – up to this point at least – has been enjoyable as well.

And this is not the narrow-minded ‘The old, heavier stuff is better’ debate that internet trolls often resort to; this is simply a ‘This is bad music’ argument. Battles is endlessly samey and unchallenging, feeling like a collection of ten repeated songs alongside two that are actually worth the cost of the record.

I like all of this but I think the booklet spelling error is the greatest.

Its got 7/10 though.

"I wouldn’t call it bad, but when you compare it to the band’s truly great material, it’s just… blah. If it had come from a different band that’s known for a different style, it might be okay, but unfortunately, that’s not the case. "
