I decided to write this review only because I ended up liking the album and want to make a point that internet piracy doesn't necesarily have dire effects on the artists out there. Rather than give a detailed review of each song, I'll keep this brief.
For those of you that hated Reroute to Remain, you may find some solice in this album. It does not bring the group backwards by any means, so you can forget the prospect of another jester race album. In fact many of the folk riffs seen in the older songs are gone entirely. It reminds me more or less of Clayman stylistically. As might be expected, Anders has increased the use of his "clean" vocals, but surprisingly enough he pulls it off more often than not this time around. There is only one track on the album where he uses the "whisper" technique, and for the most part his combination of screams and clean notes really work well. You never get the feeling that your listening to a "nu-metal" album.
As usual the guitars are catchy as hell, but in a different sort of way. It sounds more "modern" if you will. They've also encorporated more electronic sounds, but they seem to be placed better than on the last album and overall they don't damage anything. The songs are really quite brilliant. My only complaint is that there aren't nearly enough leads and solos.
The drumming left something to be desired, but it wasn't bad. Like I said, everything seems to fit. The Bass on the other hand has become more of a force than I've ever heard in any of their previous work.
Track for track this is a catchy, no nonsense album with plenty to love. I found myself headbanging only thirty seconds in. If you liked Clayman, you'll probably like this better. I believe I speak for all of us when I say I'm relieved it's not another nu-metal rip off. Buy this album!
