In the sake of fairness

I understand why someone might not like Slayer (they're totally ridiculous at this point), but you're wrong. Reign In Blood is amazing.

Reign in Blood has a great style, but I wouldn't go so far as to call the album a masterpiece or anything. You can pretty much tell exactly what the album's going to sound like from the first song (besides a few surprises on "Raining Blood"). Most of the songs on there are practically just copies of each other. So I'd say it's entirely legitimate to dislike Slayer for being ridiculous even on Reign in Blood.

I think it's a fluke masterpiece, but still amazing. I don't think Slayer actually have much talent, skill, or intelligence (with the exception of Lombardo, who is legitimately an excellent drummer).

But, yeah, it's still ridiclous.

Its no way a masterpiece in terms of music in general, but more thrash metal is a masterpiece. Not many bands have captured that same energy and skill in a thrash record.

I'd say they're fine in the skill department, but definitely lacking in songwriting talent.

Are you serious? They can't play very well at all. Listen to the solos on the Christ Illusion - it's pathetic, really, that after being in a professional band for so long they can't do better.

Reign In Blood is the only album by them I have heard. Since it was supposed to be their best, and I didn't like it, I never bothered with any of their other stuff.

I gave that album a fair chance, and I gave it several spins. It's not terribly bad, it just bores me.

You know it is possible for band members to get worse over time. Just look at Lars 'I can keep a rhythm!' Ulrich.

Okay. That's fine...

Lars always sucked...
I assume you are joking, and therefore find this funny, as that's probably the one band we could all agree sucks.

I think a new thread is needed...

Yes, one that is entitled;

Wait, I was gonna make up a ridiculously long title that implied legitimate discussion on why bands are, or are not, good. Then I realised the title of this thread is "In the sake of fairness". The point is moot.

OK let's set the record straight here:
1. RIB rules
2. Slayer may not be the most intelligent or skilled band but as far metal is concerned they have written some of the best songs/albums in the genre
3. RIB certainly does compete with the best of popular music, yeah it may pale compared to REAL masterpieces like Beethoven's Ninth symphony but what the hell doesn't?!
