This song is very underrated on this forum. I think it's one of Opeth's best and most beautiful songs. Its also interesting to note it's the first 3-minute Opeth song that is an actual real song, with vocals. The guitar is very pretty, and the vocals of course are the best part, so emotional. Its definitely one of the best things they've ever done.

Agreed. And I admire the fact that Mike has shown that he can write an excellent 3 minute song better than most people. But I do always wish it had one of those lovely blues solos he's so good at in it. That would be heaven.

I love the way that some people are depressed by certain songs and others aren't. I find Isolation Years sad, but not depressing. And yet Winters Epilogue finds it moves him differently. Such is the beauty of music, I suppose.

Yes, the song is a great "Opeth Moment" !
A really great, and almost classic, composition. Symmetrically structured (almost) with the intro being repeated in the middle and at the end of it... Beautiful. And at the same time being an excellent closing of the album!

Isolation Years is one of the only "soft" Opeth songs I listen to. Actually, probably the only one.

Maybe my favorite softer song - and I disagree with the criticism I've seen stating that Mike's voice is strained on the higher notes...seems to pull them off fine to me.
