It IS human. It is NOT a PERSON. I really don't think the term parasite is meant for a gestating offspring, but I am not a biologist.
Fine. The distinction I was trying to make was between human (adj) and a human (noun). I used the word person to try to avoid confusion. I guess I failed.

How can something be human and not a person?
That doesn't make any sense (at least to me). Humans and people are one in the same.

I agree with you here, but even if a fetus is a parasitic in nature, I don't think the term parasite should be used to describe an offspring that is purposefully placed in that situation. As I mentioned in reply to Susperia, a species can have different biological natures within it's lifetime. During the initial forming during embryogenesis, some would consider the nature and actions the cells take to be parasitical in nature - that doesn't mean the pre-fetus is a parasite.
It's all interpretation and point of view anyway.
You didn't fail, for I understood you perfectly. Usually however, personhood (as defined by various philosophical standards) is not just tested under a physiological banner. Think about it, what is a person? How do you define what a person is? Can a person be defined at all by the current standards of language? of thought? As Susperia mentioned: "It's not all black and white".

This is getting off-topic now...closing statements then a formal agreement to close? Good job everyone...
So I gather from this post that you believe that zygotes have souls and therefore are human. If that is the case, then why are there so many miscarriages? God is omniscient, so he knows who will have miscarriages, yet he implants souls anyway, dooming them. That sounds pretty awful.
So at what point does this fertilized egg receive a soul? Obviously we cant answer that...
