I agree that the production is pretty awful. I can't listen to the album on headphones, it's that bad and noticable. The drums seem to have too much kick, the lead guitar sound is faaar from clean, it's just a dirty sounding production. I've found that I enjoy Still Life most on my car's stereo, which is not even close to top of the line, so I don't really notice any of the production flaws (except for the occasional punchy bass drum). When you listen to the music, and not the production, it's a phenominal album. I wish they would remaster it so I could enjoy it with headphones too.

i agree, the mastering fuckups on still life are really fucking annoying... they are on EVERY single song. Its much less noticable on some than others, but with good quality headphones you can easily hear when the right side fucks up.

If they could somehow go back and bring the production on Still Life up to par with the last three albums and re-release it, I would be a happy, happy camper.

Maybe the 5.1 mix of SL that has been speculated on would do all this (and of course more).

I am a huge Opeth fan, and listen to all their albums a lot. I don't understand why some people dislike Deliverance so much. I think it is a great album. I also think Morningrise and MAYH are excellent. Each album is unique to me, and I don't see them as being better than one or the other, but simply different. I'm not saying that anyone is wrong for disliking Deliverance, I would just like someone to explain why.

I've been drinking tonight...but I've always wanted to ask this question. Why does like 50% of Opeth's fanbase hail "Still Life" as the best? What is so amazing about that album, that makes it better than my arms your hearse or even morningrise?

When I read the first couple of posts I'd thought that I also liked the winning candidate, but it seems too few people really appreciate Orchid.

I love the production on Still Life... Especially the vocals and drums.

Any thoughts?
