Marshall JVM205 Test!

Compared to the JVM the trusty 800 is really a one-trick pony. It does its thing really good but you'll need some trickery (boosting/modding) to take it beyond that.

Cool thing about the JVM is, it basically assimilated the JCM 800. 2 channels and each with 3 different gain modes/characters on the 205 take you virtually everywhere: from JMP, the 800, modern DSLs/2000s and beyond that.

I a/b'd the JVM, the JCM 800 2203KK and a DSL and the JVM was heads and shoulders above all of them.

Nimm dir die Zeit irgendwie, Solos spielen is der shit Kannst dich total kreativ ausleben und viel Gefühl reinbringen..ein wundervolles Hobby. In Stuttgart umgebung gibt´s vielleicht jemand, der all 2 wöchentlich unterricht geben kann, check´s mal aus..is ja dann auch günstiger vom Tarif her.

I don't think the kick fits tho, I would go for something fatter.
The guitars does indeed sound a little muffled but otherwise nice.

I love this tone. I have been a Marshall fan for years and it captures everything I love about their tone. I love how rich those pinch harmonic parts sound when you bend them together.

Awesome riffs too.

How would you compare it's tonal "range" to a JCM800?

Joe, do you know the Band "Hail of Bullets" ? They used a Marshall JCM800, when I´m informed correctly. Give it a try, this is Marshall in its most brutal way.

Blistering.com: The guitars have a deep, raw sound. How did you achieve this sound? What tuning, equipment, etc. did you use?

SG: We used a drop B-tuning, neck-thru B.C. Rich guitars with very thick strings (I for instance use Elixir Baritone strings .012-.68). The actual raw sound was created by Dan; he has some little tricks and secrets that he keeps to himself. Right now we're trying to reproduce the album sound with our own amps and that works pretty well, Paul uses a basic Marshall JCM800 2210 head and 1960 Marshall cabinets and I just bought the Marshall JCM800 2203 Kerry King Signature Head which works wonderfully well. My Marshall cabinets have a combination of Greenback and Vintage 30 speakers and we're coming pretty close to the album sound I must say.

Hey Felix, listening to the new one, the kick is definitely too loud, but isn't bad otherwise, and the snare has too much verb, but has a really cool sound (reminds me of a Bergstrand snare). And these harmonized riffs are so fucking badass dude! Guitar tone sounds good, though a bit fuzzy; maybe a bit less mids would help, but it's got more presence/bite now, so I definitely prefer it to the last one! Also, is there bass in here? If so, I can't hear it at all And the "ahhhhhs" from the choir are awesome, what'd you use for that? Acoustics sound good too, I assume this is your Yamaha again?

Really fucking badass music dude, very mysterious vibe, I love it!

Oh yeah, and most of the cymbals are too loud IMO, though the hi-hat is fine. And thanks for the compliments on my tonez/tastes dude, I just can't wait until I get a Rectifier cab!

AND ALSO: I don't think the kick is bad sound-wise, just too loud! So I think it'd work great if lowered (though actually, a slight cut somewhere around 4-6k to get rid of the click might help, since this is a kick for like Arch Enemy and other double-bass EXPLOSION bands )

OH MY GOD Felix - I was just listening to "In the Name of God" cuz you keep mentioning what a good song it is, and I have to admit, it definitely has it's cool moments (even though I hate new Dream Theater, and most of that album). However, I now know where you got the idea for the Gunman's Poem riff (don't worry though, I'm the first to admit I do the same thing all the time!)

Thanks so much for analyzing my new stuff, Marcus I just made a mix improvement and you are (as usually) totally right. Thanks for the compliments!! A Bass is certainly in..(it´s this kind of bass, that you only notice, when it´s muted) haha I just spended a bit dirt and now the bass sounds ass like in the doublebass sequences. It brings a good natural percussive element in this doublebass rythm..love this shit!

For the Choir I used the east west silver edition and YES for the acoustic guitar I used my Yamaha APX (with nylon strings) left and right, though the left one is with a light chorus, what brings a pleasent, mystical sound..like Sepultura´s "under siege" on the Arise album.

Haha it´s good possible, that there are paralells, I had listen "in the name of god" to death. As I wrote Gunman, I had Metallica in my mind..(And i´m fucking sure DT also thought a lot about Metallica as they wrote TOT) I´m not someone, who wanna copying stuff, but sometimes randomly it could happen, I think. I want to AVOID, that someone says..."heeey this already exists"..it´s a nightmare for a songwriter. So be sure, it was randomly and subliminal

Thanks man It´s a Tama snare with a cool punch! In the finished mix it will be better..also the Reverb issue will be fixed.
