memorize songs

to what extent are you able to play Opeth songs "in your head"? I was bored today during a lecture and many bits of songs just came up. I tried, but I can't seem to get a whole song right. though, when I listen to the CDs, I always know which section is coming next. being able to do that would be cool, regarding song lengths of over 10 minutes...

I have just about every CD I own on catalogue in my brain. I've more or less memorized every song on the CDs I own, so I've always got something to listen to when I get bored and don't have a real CD player.

This is something of a double edged blade though; Since I find it easy to memorize songs, I usually get bored of new CDs pretty quickly. It takes bands of the highest calibre like Opeth and Pain of Salvation to keep me coming back for repeat listens.

Sometimes when I get bored at work I just hum the entirety of Morningrise to myself, really passes the time. I could hum and recall any Opeth song except maybe the Deliveracne stuff until I get used to it.

by theory...remembering chord progressions and notes...based on basic chord-degree-theory..or notes..

I have all of opeth in my head. I can pull it up in my memory perfectly anytime..

I memorize EVERYTHING..

I would have to say that I definately have about half of my 6000mp3's memorized.

This is probably why I'm so dumb at everything else.

During an 8 hour shift at work, I went through the entire opeth catalogue..

Also, while mowing a HUGE expanse of lawn, a few years back, I played METALLICA's entire discograpfy from Kill 'Em All to Garage inc.. That's back when I like metalifaggots though..

I've since erased them from my memory for being faggot mp3 nazi's.

I always "play" songs in my head, whenever I'm not concentrating on something in particular. Often I'll work through a whole album over the course of a couple of hours (because sometimes I have to stop if I talk to someone, etc.). Most of the albmus I've got I can recall note-for-note, especially Opeth.

I always get stuck on Black Rose Immortal with the second guitar solo, whenever I've hummed my way up to that but I get the solo confused with the one in Forest of October and aciddently change songs mid-hum...then I have to backtrack and figure out the BRI solo again so I can get back on track!

Hard frustrating work I tells ya.

I have mostly every Opeth song memorized. Sometimes when I'm playing it in my head though, a part of a song leads into another one.

Of course it's hard to play an entire song in your head, they're so long and complicated songs. For me, when I'm not listening to music, I find myself playing their songs in my head all the time. Just yesterday I had "The Moor" playing in my head all day (it wasn't a bad thing, of course), and I think I almost had the whole song memorized.

YES!!!!!!! I memorize EVERYTHING........ just like with almost all of the albums I like..... maybe I just have a really good memory. I thought all of you would be able to memorize these albums too... I never even thought about it or that it turns out to be very hard to most people..... Oh, and I would hum everything to myself at work if I wasn't on register.... its literally impossible to do those things at the same time....

I do that with a lot of music I like, and I know pretty much all Opeth from MAYH and SL by memory. I don't listen to BWP much, but I can say the same for most of that album. That's why I don't like most pop music, I hear it once or twice, and there's nothing else for me to get from it.

I have found though that a lot of time I'll be going through an Opeth riff in my head, and it'll unexpectedly be followed by a riff from a different song...Yet I won
t notice until I hit a particularly standout part. I think Morningrise is the main culprit for this though.

I memorize some of my favorite songs mostly because I learn how to play them anyway. However, I learn how to play them. Anyway there are several songs I know note-by-note within my head.

I love it when I reach the point, (in an Opeth album), that I can hum along to the song while it plays. I even memorize both guitars and the bass, (I have a tendency to ignore drums unless they are extremely noticeable), so that gives me variation for my humming.

Good to know im NOT insane or anything like that.
I can memorise bits of each some, but I cant do whole songs, I usually get to a part, then my memory starts skipping like a scratched record and start repeating bits that ive already thought of.

sometimes I feel I can be more entertained while playing songs in my head after all I have to be bored to do it so it's entertaining for the time being and it's almost as if your making the music.. I can pretty much sing, airdrum and air guitar any song opeth has written except maybe one or two off orchid and of course D1 hasn't really set in yet but I can go through A fair judgement

I do the playing the songs in my head thing....but for some reason I can never play a song from start to finish....It always changes songs mid-way....and even changes bands.....I went from Opeth's The Lepper Affinity...to Children of Bodom's Black Widow....to In Flames' Wayfarer....to Arch Enemy's Behind the Smile....to the Fur Elise....BACK to where I left off on The Lepper Affinity....and then the song finishes.....oh shit...here we go again....
