Metal 2014

Wow, that is even worse than I expected. (was referring to decapitated not slipknot which obviously sucks)

New Slipknot song. As a long time fan this song doesn't do a whole lot for me but it's still alright. I hope there are better ones than this on the next album.

To be honest it has that Iowa sound for me. I like it, although it'll never catch that old feel that Slipknot captivated me with. It'll be interesting to see what the rest of the album will sound like

i made a list of metal albums from this year that i want to check out and then rate/review. idk if i'll ever manage to hear them all, but i'll do my best.

i figure this works both ways; hopefully lots of folks here will find *something* on my list they weren't already aware of (they all have very brief and lazy explanations as to why i want to hear them), and then if any of you have something to recommend that isn't on the list, please say so! or if you just want to respond to any of my reviews or say... anything.... please talk to me i'm so lonely. :(

oh btw i'd rather you didn't just reel off a list of albums without any explanation as to why i should hear them, especially if you're someone whose taste doesn't generally overlap a great deal with mine. get me interested and i'll be more likely to listen to it.

p.s. feel free to move this if you think it belongs in the band rec forums. i figured i'd chance it here as the main board presumably gets the most views and i always found the ocd segmentation of this forum kind of arbitrary and bizarre anyway. it's all VVVVV's fault! anyway maybe you'll be nice and leave it because i used to be such a popular (or something) mod around here?! but yknow, it's cool. <3

The new Mekong Delta isn't remotely horrible bro. What is the most recent one that you've heard? The production was a step back from Wanderer and it feels a little more song-based rather than album-based as well, but it's still great creative prog/thrash.

Looking through your list I don't think I could possibly suggest anything you aren't already aware of. That Prajna description looked really interesting, and while the drum machine is really unfortunate, I'm liking this otherwise, so thanks for that. The vocals are much more untrained than John Arch though, I'm getting more Sacred Oath vibes here, which is still great.

awesome, i look forward to hearing that one! i should point out that some of the reviews on that site (and certain other sites i've been looking at) are woefully inaccurate so don't be surprised if some of my 'previews' are a bit off haha.

oh, i haven't heard mekong delta in forever. i'm not even sure i've heard anything past the eighties to be honest, that was just a hunch based on, y'know, virtually all good '80s bands being shitty now. i also have something of a stormy relationship with tech- metal in general. i'll be glad to be proven wrong though, i'm approaching every single thing on this list with an open mind. :)

thanks for the response!

There's a couple of 2014 releases to mention from this corner of the world:

Hirsute - Still Waiting (doom metal of the melancholic sort)
Exordium Mors - The Apotheosis of Death (epic, thrashy black metal album that opens with a 6-track suite)

Well I can see why.

Just because I have a wider taste in music than you (which isn't surprising) doesn't mean I don't know what Decapitated was like back in the day. Carnival is Forever was good for what it was, but ever since Vitek died, they haven't even come close to being the same.

Wider music taste? Are you one of those pretentious douchebags that calls everyone who listens to "trve metal" close-minded?

Eh. new Decap is sounding like a step backward from Carnival, which I did really like. It isn't terrible, but isn't pumping me up for it either.
