I'm listening to A Sceptic's Universe by Spiral Architect. The only thing similar to this I've ever heard was Elements by Atheist. It's kind of sad to me that this kind of jazzy/complex metal didn't get as recognized as other types of metal. This is Spiral Architects only album, which was released in 2000, the band was formed in 1993 and haven't released an album since. They're still active, so hopefully a new album will come out soon. Hopefully more bands like this will emerge, because I think this type of music has the most potential of variety, thus everyone--in theory--won't sound like everyone else.
You've never heard of NSBM? Rahowa? Battlecry?
I think it's called Hailed be the Heroes. I'm not so sure because I have the Ukranian lyric version of the album and I can't read any of the titles. I'd advise you to get the whole album regardless. It's surely quite different from however Rebel meets Rebel sounds. That album must undoubtedly be total shit.I'll have to check that song out as I am a huge Tim McGraw, Tracy Lawrence, and George Strait fan. What's it called?
No, no, no. There's no such thing as white metal, grey metal, forest metal, war metal, battle metal, and arguably viking metal. People need to stop with the dumb genre names. I'm not aware of a single one that has stuck within the last few years.i've always heard/read that christian black metal is considered white metal.
metal purists don't have much of a tolerance for jazzy/complex metal
much meaning at all (most technical death metal bands are dismissed as pointless wankery when there is plenty of emotion in the music)
but if that's what you're into, check out technical/prog death metal, and prog metal (plenty of bands that will satisfy what you're looking for)
is there any reggae metal?
About emotion, I read a review on metal archives and it said most people would dismiss the album because it lacks emotion. Well, it can have emotion, but it might be harder to find. It also said that this music however, is music not to be felt by your heart, but by your brain.

like i said, that's just what i've read/heard. i still consider it black metal. i think it gets stupid when you start getting into all the sub-genres and sub-sub genres.
norsecore has to be the gayest label I have ever heard in any genre
Me either, tech can be great but I think some DM mix with something else will be a future genre.I dunno, tech DM often requires one to do ALOT of work to be able to follow it through all the time changes, insane solos, etc... etc... etc...
I love good tech bands (necrophagist, gorguts, atheist, etc...) - but it's definately not for everybody and I can't possibly see that being the next trend for metal

Sounds interesting. Those styles seem so completely opposite.the new band I'm starting out is going to be a cross between Pornogrind and Black Metal, with vocals akin to Ahab (and of course those lovely black screeches).
