yeah seriously. so JUST because something is big its bad. its a double standard you speak of. very backwards thinking. thats my problem with people like you. for example i don't look like a metalhead, and shit i'm not a metalhead, yet i like metal. but i like pop (good pop - see: mainstream music pre 2000) jazz some hip hop classical country whatever is good. i like linkin park, i like nickelback, i like fallout boy, shit i like sheila e and lionel ritchie. but i also like vader, and nile, and testament, and gojira, and liquid tension experiment, and oscar peterson, and blotted science, whatever... and you choose to denounce something because a lot of people like it. so automatically because 100 million people bought thriller, it is jammed down their throats. god forbid its actually great music and maybe thats why people like it. and only music that 500 people like is good.
hey guess what usually when a lot of people like something, there's a reason for it. and hats off to whoever it is and you have to give them credit. this is a winners mentality, what you speak of is a losers mentality.
no one says spiderman 3 is better than deer hunter, or harry potter is better than doesteovsky. but if jk rowling or whatever the name is made more money by writing a stupid book than albert camus did writing "the stranger" then good for her, she did something right. in the case of MJ, he wasn't just a money maker, but there was a reason he was who he was. was he hyped to the max in the 80's? probably.
but was he a great singer, a great entertainer and an icon in pop culture? absolutely. whether you personally like his music or not, it shouldn't make a difference. you could have avoided all this by saying "i never liked his music but he accomplished a lot. not losing sleep over his loss but rip"
plenty of people have said that. bringing in media jamming hype into peoples throats has no relevance whatsoever. perhaps you have some insecurities or venetta against "pop culture" or maybe you're jsut looking for attention or need to be "that guy"
or maybe (like i said a few pages ago) you're one of theses guys:
