Mike's clean singing in Watershed similar to Maynard's style from Tool?

I remember Big Day Out 2007. Tool came on stage and I was wondering why there was a security guard on stage. I was thinking this can't be THAT dangerous. Then he turned around and I realised it was Maynard in a bright orange jumper.. whoops.

Tool takes some time to get into. At the time I didn't enjoy it that much because my legs were dead and Tool is very abrupt, but total respect.

Seems to me this must have been, at maximum, six months ago.

Tool are an excellent band. Maynard and Mike's singing have very little similarity. Mikael's is much more about layering, atmospherics, humming, and different vocal effects. Maynard has been considered by some to be a standard rock vocalist, and even if it were true, he has an excellent sense of rythmn and tempo that really compliments Tool's complex music.

Check your facts.

You're probably noticing the middle-eastern influence of the vocal melodies and patterns. This can be heard throughout Ghost Reveries as well.

Might be what it was. It sounded familiar.

Tool is great. I really don't understand how so many people can vehemently hate them with a passion. Opeth is great also, obviously. But Tool is better overall as a rock band.

Once you grow up, you'll realize how bad Tool really is. Ever listen to APC? Lol.

EDIT: To be fair, I used to praise Tool a lot... listened to everything by them over and over again.
While their music is fantastic, the vocals and lyrics eventually started grating my nerves and now I can't stand to hear them. Kind of like getting a bad hangover from coke and whiskey and then getting nauseas at the smell of coke.

The drummer, Danny Carey, is an amazing drummer though.

I like Tool's music a lot. I don't often get a craving to listen to them, but when they come up when I'm on random I always wonder why I don't listen to them more often.

I don't care what the personalities of the bands are, I just listen to the music. The fact that they are stuck up or whatever has no impact on how much I like their albums. On the flip side, I'm sure there are a lot of nice guys who make music that wouldn't interest me in the least.

^Actually Mike loves Tool, don't even think about pulling that card.

Btw, when Mike ''croons'' in Watershed and gets really emo, his vocal melodies are similar to David Coverdale and you can also hear some Joni Mitchell mannerisms in his voice, especially when he pronounces some words real fast and finishes the verse stretching the last word. I hear Joni in the ''Once Upon a tiiimeeee!!'' part, and Coverdale in many other parts.

Tool live is the best performance I've ever seen, over Opeth even. Then again I did see them at the best venue in the country and I enjoy Tool so...

Check out this vid, Tool is amazing with their subject matter and here's why http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS7CZIJVxFY

Anyway, I think Mikes vocals are better in studio. Maynard live sounds like he's in the studio but he's not as good as Mikael. This is probably because Mike is death growling and doing clean vocals.

Yes my friend.. Tool was absolutely amazing live.

But Mike really doesn't sound anything like Maynard at all...

^Actually Mike loves Tool, don't even think about pulling that card.

What card would that be?
I'm not a fanboy who would back up my distaste for a band by whether or not my favorite vocalist likes them.

I had just never seen anything about Mike's opinion on them.

Mind showing me something where Mike said he 'loves' Tool?

Google my friend :)

xFiruath: When you aren’t playing music what do you listen to and what kind of shows do you like to go to?

Mikael: Well I listen to all sorts of music, you know I collect vinyl records. (The tour manager Beau has been poking his head in for the last few questions signaling that the interview needs to come to an end. He opens the door now and knocks on it) It’s fine Beau. I collect vinyl records and I just listen to a lot of whatever I’m buying on Ebay or at a record store or whatever, all sorts of things really. I don’t really listen to contemporary metal to be honest, unless something is recommended to me. I don’t think the metal scene today is really for me. There are a couple of good bands, a couple of really interesting ones but I tend to listen to old stuff. As for shows I go to, you know, if Maiden is coming to town or Judas Priest or Tool, I’ve got to see Tool or Porcupine Tree. I like to go to shows, I go to all sorts of things (chuckles), if I’m on the guest list.

Theres also other interviews online, I head one a while ago where MA stated it would be a dream to tour with them.

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=73885097 (Tool appears on his Favourite bands' list)

http://www.fourteeng.net/opeth.html (He says he'd like too see Opeth being covered by Tool)

Also, the card would be ''lul even Mike hates Tool, u guys r dumb!!!'', but i don't really believe that you'd be cretin enough to actually pull that card. ;)

Their voices are nothing alike you spastics. Mike's a crooner and growler, MJK is just a great rock vocalist. Both bands are awesome for different reasons, both are still relevent.
I can't imagine another band writing a song like Third Eye or Lateralas, or another band writing a song like Blackwater Park or Godheads Lament.

Appreciate or diiiiiie.

Eh, Tool is full of shit.

And I don't mean striking similarities, I just noticed some of the singing in Hessian Peel sounded a little like the way Maynard would sing it. It sounds good coming from Mike, but god damn Maynard...

The only thing that makes Tool a good band, is Danny Carey.

Yeah, Tool is definately full of shit.

Albums like Undertow and Lateralus are shit.

Opinions suck, I'm just glad mine's awesome.

and yes, i'm being sarcastic.

I don't see what the fascination with TOOL is by the members of the metal community. They are so boring and totally overrated. They aren't metal and are totally irrelevant to the metal scene. I can't comprehend why they are even brought up in discussions.
