I think this whole Nile/Morbid Angel conspiracy thing is just an underground version of how most music reviews spawn in the pop/rock world. Some idiot who wouldn't know the harmonic minor scale if it came up and bit him in the ass makes a comletely uninformed comparison of bands, and from that point on many other reviewers (who are equally stupid) share this sentiment, because they're not sure if the original reviewer actually has some knowledege of music, and don't want to lose face by disagreeing. So then what you have is a bunch of reviewers saying the same things over and over again because none of them actually know what they are talking about.

Well, SAnders from NIle openly credits Azagthoth in interviews...He calls him the guy who opened DM up to technicality on a virtuosic scale...Anyways, the main comparison seems to be their obsession with ancient myths and the like, though I have found MA to become quite contrived and boring as of late. Nile is the most original DM band in years, and hopefully the saviours of a genre inundated with talentless Mortician's....
