Ive been to see opeth on the last 2 melbourne shows, and i was right up the front on both of those night, and as i looked around i just saw all these people in awe of what they were doing (except the idiot behind me who kept shouting out things like "congradulations on putting out the best record of the decade apart from tool") then i go to other metal and punk/hardcore shows and people just go insane. i think its a lot to do with the atmostpheric type of music they play and the dedicated fans they have, but i want to know if in other shows the crowds have gone mental or been the same as my experiences.

theres been a lot of talk about Lamb of God who i personally dont like, but i saw this the other day and thought it was pretty awesome/funny/stupid

There are always mosh pits at Opeth shows, but it's generally from the metalheads that go to every metal concert they can, and not the fans that actually want to listen.

the two shows i've been to have had mosh pits. in houston there wasn't too much going on, just a little shoving.. but the show in new orleans had a lot more moshing going on.

i never go into the pit, it's kinda stupid. i think i'd have to be drunk off my ass and/or stoned to get into one. i'd rather listen to the music and experience the moment then push some sweaty guy i don't know

Although I couldn't really see myself moshing to Opeth, I definitely wouldn't want to be sitting when/if they played Master's Apprentices.

Well sometimes I like moshing, you let out some anger and frustration It also gets boring if everyone is just standing still. Some jumping/cheering/headbanging is good

There was lots of moshing at the Sacrifice/Melechesh/Misery Index/Neuraxis/Rammer show last night, but most of those bands didn't suck at all.
