ok... so how is Drawing Down the Moon Evil?
Honestly some guy quoting the Satanic Bible over cheesy synth parts and pan flutes playing made me laugh.

I will never be able to get into that album.

On a related note, I heard a few minutes of a newer Beherit song off of Engram. I thought it was actually pretty good. I might have to give it a go.

I could have listed either album, but I just love the production of Blood Libels better.

Ok, I am glad you mentioned the production of Blood Libels. Either my cd is totally fucked up or the production is horrid. I tend to believe it is the former because when I listen to the tracks on myspace or youtube or something they sound just fine, but I cant even listen to my cd because the sound is so distorted I can hardly make out any riffs. It sounds all crunchy and horrid. I have tried it on various speakers and headphones and they all sound dreadful. The cd also sounds incredibly bassy, like someone fucked with the equilizer on my stereo or something. Listening to the album at any reasonable volume creates an immense amount of bass.

Deicide's S/T actually does sound pretty evil... those layered vocals that make benton sound like a demon still make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I've never quite understood the whole "worshiping Satan" thing in Metal because I've heard or read from several different sources before that Satanists don't even actual believe in Satan as an actual entity but rather that Satanism involves worshiping and indulging the "God within you" or something like that, I don't remember exactly though. So that's how I come to wonder how all these so-called Satanic bands refer to Satan and Hell etc as real entities and places? i don't know, maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick. But here's something else I don't get... Let's first assume that Satanism is a real religion like any other. Now, most of these Satanic album get their kicks out of making hateful comments towards Christians and Christianity (there's a big difference between espousing your own religion and hating others), so my question is this: how is this any different to, for example, a Muslim making a CD about how much he hates Jews or a Hindu making a CD about how much he hates Buddhists? It's still small-minded religious bigotry whichever way you look at it, and bigotry is not something that can ever be applauded in civilized society. Also, no CD company would ever think of publishing, for example, Muslim-hating-Jew or Hindu-hating-Buddhist music, and even if they did, it would probably be pulled off the shelves pretty soon. So why is it that there are hundreds or even thousands of equally-bigoted Satanist-hating-Christian albums out there, and they are even stocked even by large department stores and such? Anyone wanna try explain this weird kinda moral and ethical disconnect that exists in the metal music scene?

Anti-Xian music comes almost exclusively out of majority-Christianity countries with relative (slanted one way) press freedom. The remaining stuff comes from Asia or other countries where no one gives a fuck about Christians.

"Real" Satanism as in LaVeyan Satanism (which is the most "real" group, $200 membership fee etc) was made up in the 1960s and is glorified atheism + gimmicky made up rituals to titillate its occult-loving members. Satan and Hell have been preached for centuries by Christians as the ultimate terror and evil, so naturally artists who wish to be subversive or edgy or whatever are drawn to those themes, and there are always hordes of rebellious/occult-loving kids around who will eat it up.

BUT TEH KRISTIANS ENSLAVED NORWAY!!!!

...You do have a point, one that I've also agreed with for awhile. I mean historically, most "Christianization" was achieved by the locals themselves. Norway for example was converted by its own kings, not some Christian invasion force. If you wanna go against the principles of the religion, fine, but you can't really blame some Christian monks for spreading the religion, instead blame King Olaf for taking it too far, burning temples and drowning shamans.

Anyway, anti-Christian lyrics are generally tolerated because they target arguably the most powerful religion on the planet and targeting authority is generally metal.

In the end, it could also be for shock value too. I mean, metalheads listen to death metal with violent lyrics and other black metal with misanthropic themes, so potentially unethical lyrics are nothing new or shocking.

I'm ranting now but whatever. I think hatred towards something as a lyrical theme is pretty stupid. I mean if you wanna write a song or two criticizing religion A or institution B, fine, but some bands base their entire career off of it, which is kinda ridiculous. I mean, don't they have any personal experiences, mythological/historical themes, or social commentary to sing about?

/end rant

 Well that invalidates my little 5 minute speech
