Most Overrated Metal Band

These lists have made me orgasm.

Here we go:

Metallica (duh)
Pain of Salvation (I can sum up the majority of their music in a word: brown)
Opeth (I LOVE Orchid, Morningrise, and Blackwater Park, but otherwise.....pretty boring with the exception of a few songs..plus their fanboys :puke: )
Iced Ass
Cradle of Fries
Cannibal Cookie
Slayer (later stuff [like Seasons, etc] is ok, though not exactly world class...early stuff has too many punky elements for me in too many places..sorry ya'll ;) )
Symphony X (Hey! Let's see how many bad pr0g songs we can write ripping off Dream Theater's Mirror/Lie suite!!! YAY!)
Nevermore (Singing off key is so.... cool..no, really..)
Children of Bodom (like, 2-3 truly good songs per album..the rest is a messy minefield of hodgepodge riffs and structure..)
ManOwar
KISS (worst band ever? nah....top 10 though)
Stratovarius (one of the most inconsistent bands around..)
Neurosis

I hate to say this cause i love em but they are way over rated. Slayer. The have killer tunes and their first 3 albums were classic but they aren't really as gifted as the rest of the big 4.

I hate having to explain this, but the thing is everyone seems to praise Opeth like some sort of demigods. It seems because they have lyrics with difficult words and really long songs apparently they're musical geniuses and play the most technical and intelligent music ever. Now, I have and enjoy all Opeth albums but I must say the lyrics are half-cruddy until "MAYH"/"Still Life" (downright bad on "Orchid") and while they certainly can play their instruments and write flowing long songs, they're not even close to being worth all the millions of kilograms of praise and 10/10, 100%, 5/5 ratings they get from everywhere without a word of criticism in the review. Opeth fanboys are really annoying.

i hate having to explain it too...

first...im a big opeth fan ...it just confuses me if an opeth-fan calls them gods, i mean |opeth<--->gods| ... doesnt fit!

but if it's ones favourite band, why not showing a lotta respect?
(respect is what i'd call it)

if everyone could/would make such music...damn, i had to praise a lot
but there must be a reason that i don't...maybe it's that opeth are (to me) different and a band you can listen too much longer than normal without getting bored and so on...

but it definitely sucks if someone just likes them or any other band because of guitar-tech or song length..

Iced Earth, Nevermore, cradle of filth...just off the top of my head

Metallica and Queensryche. These two bands are living on past greatness and haven't released anything worthwhile in years and years. I don't hate either band, but I know they can make better music than what they have.....

Firstly npearce sorry I was ignorant towards you didn't mean to insult you. Secondly explain my Sabbath thing in a lil more depth wasn't thinking when I put it its morely Ozzy that I think is the overrated one of the band mainly because he hardly did anything other than sing the songs he had written for him. Every one I speak to on this subject credits only Ozzy not Sabbath and every one is all like "Ozzy is the god of metal he started it all" which is incorrect because Ozzy was apart of Sabbath without Sabbath he couldn't have started metal alone well he might have done but I doubt it a lot from his newer material. As for who really started well thats a hard one Sabbath did infulence it but so did others at that time I'd say the real heavy metal side came into it when bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica started making music. Sabbath were classed as heavy rock a lot of the time which is why I will never say Sabbath made the biggest contribution to metal.

aaargh, shut up, you sound like vomiting.

Maybe the other people feel the same - that they don't like the particular band because of they can not play properly :err:. Metallica is just a sad example.

Another example would be Red Hot Chili Peppers. Nowadays their music is going nowhere, they just keep doing the same old tunes over and over again and still get a huge audience listening to them and buying their records.

porcupine tree, placuna coil, paradise lost, katatonia, bodom, malmsteen.

MEshuggah aren't as talented as people make them out to be. THey are obviously playing a lot of odd time, but im sure that is all they know and couldn't tell you the time signatures to most of their stuff. WHo cares they have no sense of harmony. WHo cares if they play 2 power chords throughout a song in the most obscure rhythms?

Opeth are my favorie band, although I can see why many people find them overrated. There are a lot of fanboys that are quite annoying.

Another band I would like to mention is Nevermore.... I love Nevermore and all, but some people think they are waaaaayyyy to good (just like Opeth fanboys).... just look at the Nevermore (a.k.a. Iced Earth Haters) forum.... all they ever seem to do is complain about how much better Nevermore is than Iced Earth.

And btw, I love Iced Earth, they are one of my favorite bands.

I mainly have a problem with the whole black metal scene.... Its not really bad music, and there are plenty great black metal bands out there.... but there are too many that sound exactly the same and sound like crap, and it can be very gimmicky and image based.... plus it always seems like some people try to show how much of a "true metalhead" they are by naming a random bunch of black metal bands that nobody has heard of while bashing the usual bands like In Flames or Meshuggah.... (another 2 of my favorite bands).....
