most overrated albums?

thrash metal in general is overrated.

Not nearly as overrated as black metal though.

I don't think it's quite right to say that a genre is overrated. If I say a band or album is overrated, then it's because I think there are other, much better bands/albums of the same kind that don't get the attention they deserve.

Rust in Peace is my favourite trash album, but I don't even like the rest of Megadeth's stuff very much.

Only a month ago I would've said "anything by Metallica", but I honestly haven't listened to them in such a long long time, and having recently revisited And Justice for All, I've discovered that it's still pretty damn great. There remains something nostalgic and magical in their music; reminds me of that time when I was just getting into metal and every new record I bought was an exciting new experience. I was still oblivious to "higher standards" and to all sorts of underground obscurities which I would discover later on. Part of that initial excitement is forever lost now, but at least I got to relive some of it.

Ah, yes, that good old time when you could still have "exciting new experiences" with music. I will never forget that feeling when I first heard Dream Theater. The intro to Take the Time was completely magical, unlike anything I had ever heard before. And I will probably never feel that feeling again.

Yeah, I used to listen to Metallica non stop and then I got into other shit. Now I'll go back to Metallica once in a while and it kicks ass.

To me, And Justice for All is complete turd. Lars drums sound ridiculously GAY and the overall tone of the album blows. It was the beginning of the end for them.

I find that the songs on the album are more engaging than anything they've done before that, maybe save for Call for Ktulu on RTL, which is truly their greatest song. And when was Lars ever a good drummer, anyway?

Lars has always sucked and Call of Ktulu is one of my favorite instrumentals of all time (written by...ahem...Mustaine). Ride the Lightning is the best Metallica album. It's the only album I keep going back to.
