Just read the lyrics for one thing, the riffs are so easy and everything just sounds reppetative. QUOTE]

I thought Opiate was quite good though--but that was before they "hit it big."

I tried listening to these guys and in my oppinion...(Im gonna get bitched at like no other...) They are Horrible! I fell to sleep in the first 2 songs. Just read the lyrics for one thing, the riffs are so easy and everything just sounds reppetative. I have many friends who think the same thing. WTF is going on here?
Wow, you're a real music fan. Granted, I stay away from a lot of the more popular music as well, but because it's CRAP, not because of its popularity. Opinion of music is subjective yes, but reasoning like this? I'm sorry, but you sound like a 13-year-old "rebel" without a fucking clue.Soul_Schizm said:Haven't listened to enough of their junk to have an opinion. If a band is big, I tend to stay away.

sounds like me when i was 16 ... then i grew up. c'mon man get over it you are missing out on great music. tool are a great band and they don't need to go out of their way for self promotion.Soul_Schizm said:Haven't listened to enough of their junk to have an opinion. For the stereotypical metal head on UM, I'd be hesitant to fully recommend TOOL to them but for all those who can sit down, relax, and listen critically to music, then I would heartily agree to check them out. I agree, Maynard can come across as a somewhat self-centered individual, but through the meanings and themes in his lyrics this is actually the contrary. The biggest test for the TOOL skeptic is to merely let go of any pre-conceived notion and leave all biases at the door, then just maybe you will understand.
