Movies

Takeshi Kitano has a really great visual style.

I thought his Zatoichi was incredible, but I still haven't seen any of the original series of films :erk:

I really need to see Takeshis', I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about it, although I was put off at first because apparantly it stars Beat Takeshi as himself numerous times over. So, while his paralyzed face stone cold expression commands an incredible presence, I thought it might be too much if that's all that's going on. Anyway, I'll have to see if netflix has it.

btw I'm pretty sure he didn't direct Battle Royale.

Haha, though that stone face is damned good :tickled:

Yeah, you're right; seems he was only involved somehow.

he starred as the guy in charge of the island or whatever, and was awesome doing so!

A Taste of Cherry
Super low budget artsy flick from Iran. Very slow and definitely had a few problems but considering the budget and how good the ending was, I enjoyed it. Very different, so I can certainly appreciate that.

Got that right! Scored bonus points because I was the one who found the flick, she had never heard of it. :dopey:

She once said "I can see you shaving your balls saying 'god dammit, the things I do for pussy.'" hahaha

hahaha ... first time my new chick came to my house she spotted all my Polanski flicks on DVD ... instant panty peeler :loco:

Before we went on our first date we emailed back and forth quite a bit, and since she's a film buff she was quite impressed that my list of Favorite Movies included shit like Chinatown and underground crap. I also included The Transformers Movie to let her know how cool I am. :loco:

Saw Warrior King last night, the new Tony Jaa movie. Dear Goat, that man can kick ass all over the place. Highlight - a one-take, six-minute camera move following Jaa running up flights of stairs, ascending four floors of a brothel and handing around 25 people their asses along the way.

Also notable - the sheer number of times he manages to shout 'Where are my elephants!' or variations on that theme throughout the movie.

House of Flying Daggers > Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon > Hero

Saw House of Flying Daggers yesterday and was quite surprised. I'd gotten the impression that it's reception was less than favorable and that the general concensus was that it was just more of the same. I thought it had the best story, characters, pacing, and visuals of the three. Hero was repetative (by it's very nature) and the visuals while beautiful at times were usually over-the-top. Crouching in my opinion, will forever be marred by that horribly long and boring desert scene.

House of Flying Daggers was just right. The characters were great. I loved the ambiguity of it. When it came to the last fight I didn't know who I wanted to win. And when it was revealed that the dude didn't throw his dagger I turned fucking black. I was all, "Whoa nigga! He didn't throw his dagga!" I just wish they'd fixed some of the glaring continuity errors and I didn't like that the last fight was taking place in autumn and then was suddenly in knee deep snow but whatever. Good movie!

Yay! Watched that one a couple of weeks ago, and I really liked it

Just got back from seeing Taladegga Nights. The comedy is a little spotty at times, I definetaly enjoyed the 2nd half more than the first. If you can only see one comedy this weekend, go with Clerks II. I'd chalk this one up as a "Must Rent".
