So is the plot really so confusing in Miami Vice? I find I usually agree with Ebert's skinnier and more sane counterpart so I'm not sure I want to go waste $8 on a pretty movie that makes no sense.

it's not confusing at all ... but I can see it being confusing if you are the type that mentally tunes out when the movie has its slow moments ... then it might be hard to pick up again.

the plot is as straight forward as it can be.

D/L the sounddtrack ... this thing rules ... I recommend ALL OF YOU listen to this ... you will get the mood of the flick perfectly from it. Some great ambient stuff!

EDIT:

from the review in the link above ...

Beyond that, who are these guys? Why did Crockett and Tubbs become cops? For the guns? We know these guys are best friends only because they spell it out: "I'm with you 100 percent." "I'd never doubt you." Unlike most famous cop-buddy tandems (e.g., Gibson and Glover in the "Lethal Weapon" series), they don't seem to enjoy much of anything about their work or their friendship. They're tough guys doing ugly work, and that's that.

to me the flick and characters need no explanations ... if and when you see it and pay attention on how it opens and ends ... you will realize that it is just a slice of life that we the viewer are thrown into ... as observers. this is what makes it so great!
and this is why I highly doubt there will be a sequel ...

Miami Vice the show sucked balls, Colin Farrell sucks balls, and Jamie Foxx will never be anything but Wanda to me, therefore I have less than zero interest in seeing the 20 years too late movie version even if I have heard the cinematography is allegedly breathtaking. Police Cops!!!

Beerfest is going to kick all our dicks in, starting with me. It's the dudes from Supertroopers for fuck's sake! I held off watching that movie for ages because it looked so fucking dumb, but then when I finally watched it I realized they are one of the finest comedy troupes to come around since Canadia ruled the face of the world in the early-90's.

Avatar is from Beerfest by the way. Me = :kickass: with anticipation

BURIED IN THE BASEMENT.

haha, he showed up yesterday looking like he just got run over by a steamroller (dude turned 21 a few months ago). I told him as soon as he couldn't take it anymore to get the fuck out of here. "Been there yo, take the afternoon off."

hahahaha oh. We argue about movies all the time, but it's always the details.

"did you like Finding Nemo?"
"I'm man enough to admit that yes, it's great."
"I'm surprised you enjoy a father/son story."
"what the fuck are you talking about? That shit was a journey of self-discovery, very Kerouac baby."
"there's no way, the entire thing is based on the relationship of a father and son which ends up strengthening throughout seperation"
"bullshit, that was the bookends of the story at best, even the middle parts with the dad was just a break from the main quest."

That conversation took place in a Chinese restaurant. :loco:

gonna see Bon Cop Bad Cop this week, maybe our friends from english canada heard about it? It's completely half english, half french and I only heard good reviews until now, it's supposed to be wicked funny. At least here in Quebec it was the #1 movie of last weekend.

the remakes are outta control.

anyway, saw The Descent this afternoon. It actually scared me with all the claustrophobia and whatnot. Definitely one of my fave horror flicks. Liked how it was totally serious too - no allusions or homages, no humor, just flat out bleakness.
Also saw a guy with a Suffocation shirt at the cinema
