Seems to be what he was going for on Descent? Not a "typical" horror film? More of a story of people having to survive in a completely twisted situation.

Yep. I totally disagree with Thanatopsis that it was just a monster movie, because it quite blatantly wasn't. I didn't feel that the characters' reactions to the monsters were overdone at all either - where Thanatopsis saw posturing and overdone action movie theatrics, I saw a clever reversal of typical horror movie gender stereotyping.

I'm gonna see the Descent after my wife leaves to visit her parents (no way I can convince her to go with me :( )

I liked Inside Man. It wasn't great, but it was better than most other things that came out this year (that I've seen... not a lot of indie stuff makes it to Utah). Forgettable, yeah, but still an enjoyable two hours.

Saw "The Descent" tonight. I thought it was alright. It was good and suspenseful, but as violent as they pumped it up to be, it was much milder that I had expected it to be. Probably my only let-down. I thought the story was good but the ending left much to be desired (this seems to happen alot with me lately, though).

hey thanatopospospotposis, thanks for spoiling the movie for anyone who hasnt seen it, especially the beginning, which i missed cuz i was late.
DICKHEAD!!!

@Ellestin: we discussed Wolf Creek a few pages back.

Thanatopsis, I see what you mean by all the posing and what not, but I don't think it was as over-the-top as you made it out to be.

The Hills Have Eyes 2006 is downright revulsing.

Anyone watched Wolf's Creek?

yeah, THHE was great ... Wolf Creek actually was very similar, plot wise, but less gory.

I was looking forward to seeing Wolf Creek but was pretty disappointed, still a fairly good movie.

The Descent is one of the best theatrical horror movies to have come out in the last 5 years.

Saw Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back on DVD. WTF. I chuckled once and then took a long dump. Horrible.

When will people realize that Kevin Smith is/was one of the biggest jokes ever to be played on consumers?

Dearest Jerry,
Clerks 1 was amusing because we all saw it when we were 15 and thought cussing was the height of humor. Clerks 2 is almost word for word, the same as Clerks 1.
Yes, I'll admit, Clerks was funny then and I'd probably give a chuckle or 2 if I saw it now, but everything else K.S. has done has been unwatchable.

Dearest Johnathon,

What comedies do you find to be of the utmost highest caliber?

On a side note, what is your opinion on the following?

Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura, Monty Python Holy Grail, 40 yr old Virgin, Rosario Dawson's tits?

It was also WAY to easy to figure out who was going to survive. As soon as they had that boat scene at the start I knew it was going to come down to the two chicks that were fucking the same dude and it would end in a confrontation between the two with the blonde winning.

I disagree with most of what you say, but only feel the need to comment on this. In America you got the Hollywood ending, as every film needs closure and a happy revolution otherwise people leave the cinema unhappy. In the UK (and original) version of the film the ending isn't as clear cut...

ok FINALLY saw the Descent

and I was keeping all of Thanatopsis123's comments in mind while watching. And I disagree with what you have said, but regardless.....

This movie was fantastic.

also, fuck the US ending.

nah, but it implies a complete loss of hope in the situation, which is kinda evident was being avoided in the US cut. oh well, going in knowing that, I didn't mind it so much because it could still be implied by that last eye poppin' scream

Just finished viewing Infernal Affairs. This movie is simply brilliant. Any fan of "Heat" should pick this one up. :worship:
