Movies

I watched Metallica: Some Kind Of Monster with the band commentary last night. Not particularly enlightening, they don't do much other than diss the timeline jumps in the editing and say 'Yawn' when Jason is mentioned - although Lars does have a funny story about dropping Dave Mustaine back to his hotel after their face-to-face meeting, and putting on the radio to break the awkward silence to be faced with a Metallica track - so he changes the station, and the other station is playing Metallica as well. Dave wasn't exactly thrilled.

You went from a 10 star epic, to the shittiest shit shit film in the history of horror?~? I seriously hope you saved Oldboy for last. :p

Yeah, it was House then Oldboy. That said, I enjoy House - I'm a big fan of all the Texas films, even the baaaaad ones like The New Generation, and House of 1000 Corpses reminds me of those. IMO it has a great camp feel and good atmosphere, great mindless viewing, which is good when you're working at the same time

High Fidelity

is a fantastic movie

Or one of the most unduly hyped and overrated flicks of the past ten years; I disliked it so much I'm not even sure I sat through the whole thing. I don't recall just what I disliked so much, only that I, in about twenty minutes, hated the main character and wished him all the bad the world could bring

I never knew there was a hype or overrating to be had, so I cannot verify these claims. I did however find it to be one of the better acting performances of Cusack's career. Jack Black was not as overbearing as he can be, so I even found his part well done. Even disregarding the cliche romantic comedy "chick-flick" elements, entertainment was still aplenty in the form of the overall music related plot.

But I can see where loathing Cusack would be a big turn off.

SAY ANYTHING >>> HIGH FIDELITY

It's been a while since I've seen that one! .. but I recall enough that I can claim factuality to this.

Grosse Pointe Blank takes the cake, however.

Dead Mans Shoes

Britsh flick about lowlevel crooks who pick on a mentally disabled kid and the kids brother comes back from the miltary to exact revenge on them. Very Taxi Driver like. No big name stars. Won awards iat the Edinburgh , Seattle, and Toronto film festival. Comes out on DVD this Tuesday. I watched it twice last night and its funny, depressing, gut wrenching and just a great movie. Its really sad. Its very intense in several parts.
