Movies

I finally watched High Fidelity yesterday, or an hour of it, then I turned it off and went to sleep. The main character is such a whiney and annoying cunt it made the movie a lot less enjoyable than it could have been. But the other characters were pretty boring/annoying as well and the plot was utterly uninteresting. I was thoroughly disappointed :|

High Fidelity sucks...

Things I would reccomend that you've all probably seen 34235346 times

Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill Volume I and II
28 Days Later
Cabin Fever (theres boobs AND a guy killing a faceless chick with a shovel... i mean... thats just cool)
Old School < one of the best college movies EVAR!!11

Yeah I hated High Fidelity. A Day After Tomorrow, was big and dumb, cheesy but funny. It had been a while since I had seen something so over the top, that was still entertaining. I would never watch it again.

How about Troy? How do you ruin the Illiad? How? I knew I was in for trouble when like the second scene claimed " The Port of Sparta" . Anyone with a basic even rudimentary knowledge of history or geography should start laughing at such a suggestion. Its not as if they lacked money, or the cast, or the directing talent.

wHAT are you guys talking about? high fidelity fuckin ROCKS, its so great.
Troy is not a bad movie. Geographical and historical mistakes dont make a movie bad. It was a decent film with nice fight scenes and cool acting.

Words of truth. I thought all music fans loved High Fidelity just by default.

Ok I of the Storm, we are going to play a little game, I will say I hate something, and conversely, see if you love it.

Well start with The league of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I find it horribly horribly bad. Next, Pearl HArbor- well any movie Ben Affleck is the main character.

About Troy, the fight scenes are ok, but they are still cut way too fast, and seem too frantic. The acting was fine. But why rewrite the Iliad? Its been read for 3000 fucking years, why change it so drastically? Why make Brad Pitt storm out of the Horse, and try to save his slave girl Brisies, when he was already dead, and loved his male lover ( whose name I forgot) more? I saw this movie in Greece. The crowd was both happy about seeing brad pitt, but laughing at some of the scenes. I think Peter Otoole said he walked out after a few minutes of enduring this crock of a movie.

I havent seen the "league of .." . "Pearl Harbor" is fun, nothing special
About Ben Affleck, its weird to say that for any actor. For example and about Ben Affleck, i can think of all the Kevin Smith movies he plays in,and they all rule. See?
TROY:
Actually its hard to make a movie with the whole ILIAD saga in it. What could happen is parts of Iliad, with some "new" and completely fictional (non in Iliad that means) thingies, and a silly love story. And thus "Troy" was made. It was made that way so that the Hollywood freaks could understand it. I knew that before seeing it, from the day i heard it is being filmed. I didnt expect a story true to Iliad, and i was not dissapointed.
BUT
If Petersen chose wisely, he could make the movie better. He should not take the gods out of the whole thing. He could explain why Priam made it to Achilles' tent as it is in Iliad (rather than the stupid-hollywood quote "i know my land better than the Greeks"). And many more. Iliad is too complicated for the average hollywood fanatic

Yes well I think Kevin Smith is an awful director. I dont like his films, and it is obvious he has no visual talent. I suppose I dont understand nor care for, the whole culture he is talking about, but it is obvious he relies totally on story, and not filmmaking talent. Thus, if you think his stories are awful, and geared to a specific audience, then his films will be unbearable as they have no other redeeming qualities.

I agree with alot of what you are saying about Troy, but it still doesnt change the fact that it is a terrible film. A terrible but entertaining film, as seems to be the case with most hollywood blockbusters these days.

I mentioned Affleck, as I cant remember seeing anything but a lame idiotic movie with him in it. Only Good Will hunting and Changing lanes were any good.

Kevin Smith is definetally a better writer than director. I like all his films. I dont think he cares in accomplishing advanced directing pieces of work. He cares more for the story and the characters (imo).

Arg. High Fidelity RULES in all aspects. Music, the scenario, the characters are GREAT (JACK BLACK IS AT HIS BEST IN THIS ONE). And i really feel the protagonist, i mean the situations he faces are totally realistic and happened also to me.. HOW CAN SOMEONE NOT LIKE HIGH FIDELITY?

I dont like it. Its about obsession. I suppose it covers the topic quite well, however, I was never moved nor ever felt any sympathy or understanding for the Cusack character. Surely if one connects with the main character it would be a wonderful film. So, hopefully you will now understand why I dont care for the film, but respect it.

If you like it, thats fine, I dont mind, nor care, nor do I think this is a second rate film; it was well done, unlike say a Kevin Smith movie etc. I cant say I am some expert or something about how well the film is made- Lurch would be. Plus, hell I d get more from watching Lethal Weapon 4 ( which I enjoyed last night), so thats what my opinion is worth.

The characters are annoying, especially Jack Black, the scenarios might be realistic but that does not equal interesting in my book.

(And yes, that's about how rewarding stating ones opinions get :| )
