saw THE ROAD yesterday. v. good, extremely grey and bleak

like movie adaptation of "all life ends" by at the gates

yeah, THE ROAD was fantastic.
the copy I saw was a pretty bad quality one, which I just thought added to the bleakness of it.

I almost passed on this based on the trailer which made it look more like an action movie.

i saw it in the theater actually so good qualities all around. still very bleak. never saw the trailer, but i read the same thing on imdb, that it is not at all like the movie. not surprising that they decided to make the trailer like an action disaster movie type thing. as it is it is very bleak and hopeless and not really commercially viable to the usual hollywood crowd, but it's gotta have been pretty expensive to make anyway, some of the ruined city landscapes were pretty fantastic, so yeah, they need to cheat people a bit to recoup the money i guess

i agree ... but that cheating was what probably backfired on them. the 2012 crowd went in to see it probably and must have been like wtf.

the trailer sets it up where it looks like a big part of the movie is some type of showdown with that gang that they pass early on into the flick, the Road Warrior looking crew. but that thing is like a 10 minute negligible sequence.

but by then they're already laughing all the way to the bank

that's pretty stupid

i mean i would hate to go in there expecting mad max and finding out that "oops i guess the only actual action was the hero guy shooting an innocent child with a flare gun"

the movie made $8 mil in the theaters ... I am sure that doesn't cover shit.

anyway ... here's the trailer

Shutter Island was mostly perfect. Great acting from Leo and Ruffalo with a '50's vibe that was hella authentic. The music played a key role in setting up the the scenes that made my girlfriend CRY in the theater. Sooooo refreshing......but the ending was as said by the above poster.
...
I Am The Cheese rip-off though

The cinematography and acting of DiCaprio were stellar. Quite easily the best movie I've seen in the past 8 months. Some of the dream sequences were a little too rich and hokey, but not bad enough to detract from the overall film. Sure the ending has been done before, but I don't see where else they could have taken it without revamping the script entirely. Helheim rules my face!

After returning from the theater, I took in The New Guy. Nothing too humorous, but amusing enough with a beer or two in the system. Plus Eliza Dushku provides quite the visual. :loco:

Going to take in Dear John to please the woman this weekend. Channing Tatum :erk: But really, what else is out there?!?! Hollywood is churning out one stinker after the next. Thankfully, Clash of the Titans is right around the bend. The trailer has my blood purrrrring.

Only a scant amount of theaters were playing it here in Los Angeles, perhaps half a dozen. A fair portion of humanity stick to the same cineplex (myself), I'm not going to re-enact the film's subject matter by traveling to a negar wasteland to catch it. It's on my rental radar.

After all the controversy around the film, I gotta say I expected a lot more.
Well, I'm not surprised it caused some controversy, what with the handful of near pornographic scenes. I honestly don't think I've seen anything that showed what that movie showed, outside of porn. That said, I'm not sure how I feel about the movie. I don't think I understand it. Check that... I didn't understand it. As others have said, it was beautifully shot, though I'm sure any part of it, from the character development, to the title, to the symbolism made any sense.

So Martyrs... I downloaded a BluRay copy last night. Is this anything more than brutality on a shocking level? Or is it actually a good movie?

Walked out of The Crazies the other day....ugh.......curse you guy from Live Free or Die Hard for not being as good in this one as you were that one.
