Yeah I know the description doesn't do it justice at all. Seriously the way it increasingly blends two story lines (and the point where they break apart) alone make it one of my all time favorites.

The Descent fucking rules. Martyrs and Antichrist come quickly to mind for amazing modern horror movies, but if I had a beer I could probably think of a few more.

Descent 2 was actually pretty good
Trick R Treat is the best horror movie (the atmosphere anyway) in recent years
I also like the crew behind House of the Devil and The Innkeepers as well as some vignettes in VHS and VHS 2

There is a Halloween Horror Fest thread around here somewhere. Someone find it. I'm too lazy

Inside is a great film as well, but Martyrs may be, pound for pound, the best horror film ever.

Also for really good/weird horror Frontier(s) is a fucking crazy movie

I like the French stuff like Inside/Martyrs/Frontiers etc but don't love it. I forgot about House of the Devil and Trick R Treat..but yeah, horror is definitely in a downward slump.

Man you overrated the hell out of this movie. I really felt like after about 30-45 minutes the flashbacks were basically useless and kind of showed/proved nothing that couldn't have been imagined.

Really? Well each to their own, I really liked the way they seamlessly blended between the story lines at the end. I grant you there weren't any huge plot twists but I didn't think the movie suffered for that.

I'm not even sure I would call it a horror movie too, I don't think it tries to be that crazy. Psychological Adventure Drama maybe? The sister character is really weird I thought too for how smart/planned out she thought she was and then what basically happened in the end.
