Spawny: I think you've missed the point of my post. All I was trying to say in my post was that I think it's cool that a new heavy band is playing rock & roll and not trying to be serious. I never said they were great like you said I did, I said they are not my thing and I don't like the vocals, I just think it's cool that they are doing nothing but having a good time. About the clothes thing, I again I never said "wow they are such a good band coz they dress like Motley Crue"... firstly I was just making an observation that they were influenced by Shout era Crue (that was the original point of the post, the Crue connection), and then it just also got linked into part of how I think it's good that bands are doing shock rock again and having a cool image because I think how a band looks is important in rock music.
Also I never said they were nu-metal did I. I was very conscious to say that they were a part of the new heavy rock scene, which they are. Their target audience is obviously the heavy rock crowd who listens to stuff from nu-metal to industrial to hardcore, and isn't a band's audience the one thing that defines what scene they are a part of? I never said they were a nu-metal band I said they were part of the current heavy rock scene. And as far as the thing about saying they are better than Fear Factory etc just from one song, I can say that because I HAVE heard full albums by Fear Factory (Obsolete, Demanufactore and the really crappy new one) because remember I am 20 and therefore lots of my friends play it at parties so I hear it all the time. Machine Head, Slipknot, Disturbed, Hatebreed, all of them I am extremely familiar with their stuff. And the reason I can say I like Murderdolls better is not because they have Motley Crue style costumes, it's because they are playing rock & roll. One song, 10 songs, doesn't matter... if a band is playing fun rock & roll influenced music rather than trying to be a musical version of Blade Runner and trying to make statements about technology vs man and the future and all that shit, then yes I can safely say I like them better.
I don't listen to music because I like the kick drum sound on the album or I think there is a cool drum fill or "ohh listen to that pull-off there". I choose my music based on its vibe and how it makes me feel and the type of place it takes me to. And I like music that is "nothin' but a good time" to quote Poison haha.
NOW do you understand the point of my post? Basically alll I said was 2 things: a) I noticed that their costumes are very similar to Motley Crue's Shout costumes; b) It's good to see what I call "the grunge disease" in rock music (that being the whole music has to be serious and say something and not be shallow and image isn't important etc etc etc) thing disappearing and bands emerging that are putting on a show and having fun.
Fuck man I don't even like Murderdolls and I'm having this whole conversation about it! I think their music still sucks! (Which proves I don't just care about what they wear coz I like what they wear and I don't like the band!) I'm just glad heavy music is starting to turn back in that direction. I'd still rather listen to Shout At The Devil or Open Up & Say..Ahh! anyday and wouldn't bother spending $25 on Murderdolls when they are still 672065235 great albums from the '80s out there that I don't own and will enjoy alot more.
Geeez talk about missing the point.
Anyway yeah they aren't my thing but I would have to say they are definitely the best of the current bands in that whole mallcore/industrial/nu-metal thing, that whole heavy scene at the moment

And don't get me started on Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata".
That is the best quote I have heard on this board in a long time. A good song is a good song, and it doesn't matter if the group who plays the song is from a genre that your not fond of, a song can still hold its own and be a good song. I know the genres I like and what I don't, but I still have hundreds of mixed mp3s and songs on compos that are all different genres mixed together, just coz I like the songs. I'm not too fond of most death, or alot of power metal, and some prog is just boring and wanky, and I don't really like the whole glam scene at all, but I still like particular songs from each genre.Originally posted by spawn
a good song is a good song.............doesnt make the song any less valid no matter what genre it is.

Spawny even though they don't play nu-metal they are a part of that scene because they have the same target audience! It's the audience that makes up a scene am I right? The reason Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon, etc were part of the same metal scene was because they had the same audience.... same with Poison, Warrant, Bon Jovi etc in the late 80s. Bon Jovi played very different music than those 2 but they were part of the scene.
AND as I said, I have heard full albums of those other bands and it isn't great material, its shit material. So I can say that based on that one song, I like them better, because it's probably indicative of the band's style which I prefer to the other bands' styles. Get what I mean now???
And what's with the "because they don't dress up like its 1984" thing. You are STILL missing the f%$^ing point!!!!! :rolley... oops
I wasn't saying every single band has to dress up like that and I only like a band if they dress up or anything. I simply said IT IS GOOD TO SEE BANDS DOING IT AGAIN! What is wrong with saying that? Don't you agree that its good to see band's putting on a show again? If you do agree, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ARGUING ABOUT because that was my whole point!
