New Acustica-Audio Site (Nebula!!)

If the proper pay versions are as good a quality as you say, I might have to put these to the forefront of my GAS if they will most likely turn into my go-to colour EQ's.

Highest libary recommendations for mix and master?

Anybody here have nebula working on MAC with PT8!?.
Cant find anything on the forum or any referrence on the that website!. Guess you will need a wrapper from VST to RTAS.

You and me both man. Nebula could annihilate and corner the market with cab emulation ALONE if they just tried. Imagine rendering the whole amp cranking and cab micing procedure almost obsolete? Seriously, if they achieve with relative similarity the results they have with certain EQs that Alex B has modeled, except for cabs, I would not even consider taking a mic to one ever again. First thing up for sale would be my OS.

I still think it was just a matter of getting more programs and more experienced people to mic a cab and give it a go.

I`ve been stubbornly using Nebula last few months and got better results than I ever got with impulses:

Nebula has sick potential and I`m pretty sure that with more programs we`d strike gold

I need to get around to upgrading my Nebula 2 license to Nebula 3 - I stopped using it when I went x64, but miss it. now that htey seem to have a usable site I just might do that.

+1

Nebula has unbelievable potential. Cant believe there arent more people creating cab programs for it. Best one ive tried is Poi EnglV30. Sounds great, very 3d, but lacks a bit of high end and has too much heavy lows, so always needs drastic eq. The complete opposite of most other cab programs Ive tried which IMO arent fizzy, they just lack low end.

Would love for some more folks with solid experience/equipment in miking amps to create a few programs.

Could lead to a real revolution in electric guitar recording.

So does the Nebula 3 Pro bundle come with any decent cab impulses? Or does Nebula not use standard impulses? I've never used it before some I'm still a nebula n00b :D

The problem when we compared real cab to impulse to nebula was that nebula always seemed to have these very abrasive super highs. They sounded grainy and artificial in nature. I don't know where that was from, but there were never any moves made by the devs to circumvent them. As a result I gave up.

As far as Jeff's DIs go, here was my first ever attempt mic'ing the Oversize here, at stupidly low volume: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/285689/Forum/Jeff-RoseofSharyn-ErmzReamp.mp3 (2 tracks real and 2 tracks 8505 into ryan's impulses)

Once Nebula can obliterate that by about 2 to 300 percent then I'm sold.

Regarding the cab's:
Sampling is a ardous process not only for the time but when you are capturing several variables especially distortion, it's a very sensitive process. To sample cab's properly you would need more than 10 distortion Kernels and presently that's tough to do without completely messing things up. The high freq's mentioned are most likely do to the sampling process interpolating "garbage"/noise within the signal since the Kernel implementation is so high. But when this is tackled properly - well, just look at what Nebula has done so far.

The included libraries that come with free Nebula as well as the paid versions are very usable indeed. The 3rd party libraries take it to unbelievable sonic heights. Aquavox too, don't forget is free, and is a way of wetting your beak so to speak. If the new user can understand and sort of step away from traditional coded plugin use, then they can begin to see that Nebula in general is about subltey and cummaltive processing. This is to say, don't push individual instances too hard and as you are building a mix you will notice in the grand scheme of things how much richer, more 3D, and organic your sound will be. Consequently, this also prevents form over processing like EQ and compression.

That's most certainly true for many of the saturation programs. Alex's CLC really shook things up for me and brought a new level of joy to my mixing. The EQs as well make ITB mastering a very viable possibility.

What do you think the prospects are for Nebula and guitar cabinets in the near future, Tmusic? I understand what you mean about the sampling process interpolating lots of garbage into the program because of the relatively high noise floor of the amps. Are there any workarounds to this?

Yes the saturation here on the signal is not about transient destruction but that a sonority and dynamic harmonic character is imparted. In fact, handling transients in a more natural and round way is getting better and better as well. As far as the near future, I couldn't say it would be that immediate but there's already advancement in this department and may be something closer to capturing the essence of cab's, which would also address smaller, workable dynamic ranges such as the amps you mentioned isn't too too far away. But exact time table, I couldn't say. It's such a crazy and amazing technology you never know what each true variable will bring to the table. Just like between 2007 and 2008 compressors seemed like a fable. But then 2009 ushered in a new possibility and now we have impressive compressor possibilities - which mind you still even have room to grow.

And Nebula is free?? If you only want to go with 3rd party content?

And can you run it in PT??

There is a free Nebula version that users new to Nebula can start with which includes a fully functional albeit smaller library. Aquavox too is free, which is a standalone pre-amp plug-in powered by Nebula. Nebula will run with any major DAW programs that support VST technology or use a wrapper.
Also, the new website has a lot of this type of info and is pleasing to look at too ;)
