New music: What's everybody listening to?

I listen to mostly metal, but I love my fusion too. Listening to Shawn Lane sends me to heaven. I like straight out Jazz too but find it can be VERY drawn out which is fine for a party but not so much for sitting there jamming to with the head phones on. Other than that though I'm pretty much a snob :p

Yay, me too :) I love Holdsworth and Tony Macalpine too :)

I also listen to "Aziza Mustafa Zadeh", in the name of jazz. She is amazing.
I like celtic music very much, you can't imagine. So i like "Ronan Hardiman"s half electronic celtic music compositions, you should check out if you like celtic stuff too.

You should also check out "Billy Mclaughlin" if you like fingerstyle playing. He has some kind of disease nowadays, which is preventing his playing unfortunately.

And if you can handle a little bit of electronic music, you "must" really know this guy:

So these are for fusion lovers:

Well, I listen to Metal but, like many others here, I listen to Allan Holdsworth, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, etc

Jaco Pastorius - he was amazing! There's one artist that every bassist should listen to at least once.

Silent Realm, I agree. I guess you have to be in the mood to let jazz take you on a whole listening experience, rather than just a casual jam on the headphones. But that's what's good about it.

There are only TWO bands I listen to that are modern and mean anything to a casual music listener. Moreover, they aren't even incredibly mainstream AND they really arent that new.

Opeth
Children of Bodom.

Yes, because Communic is the best band ever. I got the LE of that as well last week... fucking brilliant.

I'm enjoying the new album even more than the first, Communic is amazing. I've also managed to track down the Ingermanland demoes Oddleif and Erik did before Communic, great stuff. :kickass:

Awesome! I'd love to hear those at some point for sure. Did you find a hard copy, and if so where might one find this? If they are mp3's... ah... somewhere else :D

I agree that this surpasses the debut, even though Conspiracy in Mind was one of my favorites of last year. This one is so much heavier, yet more progressive. The extremes are taken to further extremes, and songs like Fooled by the Serpent, Watching it All Disappear, At Dewy Prime... fuck, every song is GOLDEN!

I listen to about 95% metal. I suppose the rest is mostly rock and old acoustic stuff like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and American folk music. I dig acoustic stuff if it is by the an artist that can really do it well.

I've been listening to Waves of Visual Decay nonstop since I got it and I have to say, it really is as good as you make it out to be. This is easily the best release I've heard so far this year and I would not be surprised if it turns out to be one of the best releases this year. :kickass:

yeah, he's amazing. I just recently saw him when he came to st.louis to play at a local venue.

Dragonforce

Saw them in concert last week and can't get them out of my head.

When I first stumbled accross them a couple of years ago I heard one song and thought they were a bit of a joke.

Then a few weeks ago I stumbled on a video clip from their new album and thought this is cool, these guys (the 2 guitarists primarily) are clowns and not the dicks I thought they might be. Watching them live and some Youtube.com interviews reinforced their coolness.

I love their music too and they did an awesome live performance.
