Hey guys. I'm a newbie to the board but definantly not to Opeth. They are probably my 2nd favorite band next to Iron Maiden. The Upcoming tour for ghost reveries will be the first full set (I suppose) of Opeth for me. I saw them on the sounds of the underground tour and they were amazing as always. Also met the guys and they were all really nice guys. I'm glad that I am going to one of the dates with Nevermore and Into Eternity as they are both great bands as well. What I was really wondering (I know I should have used the search, I apologize) is if Martin Lopez is still out or if he is back for this tour and if not, who is replacing him? Thanks to all who reply. Up the irons!

No, I am not a wizard. That's just a nickname. Where in NC are you? I'm from NC as well..I assume you'll be catching the Ziggys show? Maybe?

Lopez is not back for this tour and probably not for the ensuing European tour either... His replacement is Martin Axenrot of Bloodbath (ex Nifelheim, he was too "untight" for them as Mikael said :))

He does a very good job for a replacement but it doesn't of course come close to Lopez performance. Hope he gets well soon...

Opeth > Maiden
I expect loads of hardcore Opeth dudes are gonna slay me for saying this but I think that some early Opeth stuff has Maiden as an influence. The tempo of some of the instrumental bits on Morningrise and Orchid plus a galloping quality to some of the basslines made me think a bit of Maiden. I'm not a big Maiden fan though, just saying...

^Yea, Mike is a huge Maiden fan so it's not surprising that they creeped into Opeth's music.

So I'm not the only one hearing cheerful, slightly Maiden-like guitar runs bouncing along with the double kick-drumming!

well he's a bodom fan, so that means he's 14, and merlin is like 300 so he can't be him :erk:

This is the reason why I hate message boards sometime... I'm not 14, I'm actually 19 and why would you care what music I listen to? Isn't the reason why we are all on this forum is because we love Opeth?

never heard of it, I'm guessing it's a small town?

anyway yeah i'll see you there dude. Look for the incredibly handsome guy laying on a pile of money surrounded by girls.

seriously.

I think Fates Warning did a better version of Maiden with Awaken the Guardian than Tatler and Harris ever did.

Maiden's overrated, but a solid footnote in metal history (they sold a lot of t-shirts). FW was always more interesting and over time evolved and continued to be interesting rather than rehashing the same galloping riffs over and over again....
