NFL 2009

Denver is somehow, someway 5-0...good for fucksake. I honestly think they are a good team...not that great of a5-0 team. My Patsies had the game and should have put it away. Must be karma...Pats win a game they should have lost (Buffalo) and lost a game they should have won (Denver)...oh well.

The taunting penalty on Merriweather at a key moment was bogus and comical on the refs. They showed the replay and you could clearly see the official standing right next to the play throwing the flag before Merriweather pumped his fist in excitement (wich is not taunting either way?) after making the clean play / tackle. The ref was going to make a pass interference call or something...then all the refs got together and said ahhh no? Then decided they had to call sum'n...soooo taunting?

damn that was a good game. Henne looked good

Very good game. The AFC East and with its rivalries, no matter how good or bad the teams, continue to produce (have for sometime) one great game after another. As much as I hate on Miami (but thanks for beating the Jets)...thier offense at times can be very fun to watch. Henne has a much stronger arm than Pennington (as do most). There is no way Pennington makes that designed roll-out bullet of a throw to the sideline for a key first down on the winning drive.

Regardless is WAS taunting. You can't stand over another player pointing and yelling. End of story.

Its easy to say this unless you saw the play or replay, wich you may or may not have?

It wasn't taunting...it was a reaction that you see players display all the time without getting penalized. Funny thing...wether he did or did not taunt really isn't the point however.

The only ref who threw the flag did so just before Merriweather did any gesture. Unless the ref has e.s.p. or a crystal ball...I mean c'mon?

After the refs little pow-wow only 2-things can happen...its either...
-pick up the flag and mention no flag on the play wich they didn't have the balls to do?

-a subsequent made-up call by the refs to cover thier own asses, wich is what happened.

it doesn't matter and its certainly not sour grapes or excuses for the Pats...they have thier own issues and lack of plays in not getting it done in the game...its just a wierd / bad moment for the refs at that point in the game.

Take a look at it again. Watch 3:24 to 3:41. What this is is a taunting penalty, regardless of whether or not a flag was even thrown. And listen to the referee: "And here's a late penalty flag. And here's another penalty flag." There you go. Two flags. The first is on an incorrect pass interference call, the second is on a correct taunting call. The flag that you see thrown is the incorrect one, but the back field judge throws another flag after the taunting.

Thanks D G...this clears it up perfectly. Maybe you can understand my mistake and "wtf?"-sentiments -prior to your post...in not knowing a second flag was thrown and such...

No problem.

Ugh, I just read that Aaron Smith is probably going to be out for 3 months. I guess that moves Travis Kirschke up to the main starter, and Ziggy Hood will definitely see more playing time. Troy Polamalu and Willie Parker will be back this week though, so I still think the Steelers are better now than they were last week.
