NFL 2009

Oh yeah, and the whole shoulder to shoulder no-no bullshit is completely ridiculous as well, but that also falls under the excessive unnecessary roughness calls. The owners are really to blame about most of the shitty rule changes though, because they must protect their 100 million dollar investments.

You have the Packers listed higher than the Bears, even though the Packers raped them in the opener? And you think the 49er's are better than Green Bay? Wtf?

And that Pats game was a joke. Whoever called the roughing the passer on Brady needs to be fired. You've got to be kidding me, there was hardly any contact at all.

Actually, I have the Bears listed higher than the Packers. Also, the Packers did not "rape" the Bears in that game. Although that game winning td by Rodgers was pretty awesome.

The Packers are just totally unimpressive right now. Their offense should be a lot better than it is, and their defense totally unreliable.

I agree about the Pats game, that's why I have them so low in my power ranking.

You said rank the conferences ya noob! Not the teams?
Just post SI 's power rankings and save us all a fookin head ache:lol:

I would probably drop the Bungles and the Jets and the 49rs and the falcons...not yet for them...just not yet!

Why would you drop those teams?

Yeah, that looks about right but I'd place the Jets above the Bengals at least. Sure the Bengals won, and the Jets lost this week but the Bengals almost lost against the Browns whereas the Jets lost to the Saints.

Top 3 for the NFC is ridiculously close though. That is a definite "could go either way" situation and week 6 Saints vs. Giants has GOTY potential.

I had a hard time picking either the Jets or Bengals to fill that spot and the one thing I kept turning to was Carson Palmer. Veteran QB > Rookie (as per the Saints game).

Eagles are better than 7.

and... im not doing this until I see the Gmen @ New Orleans

If McNabb can come back healthy then yes I agree that the Eagles are a lot better, but not right now.

The Pats beat the Ravens yet you still rank the Ravens no.2 and the other fraud teams ahead of the Pats ? You should know better?:) The 3 best in the AFC are the Colts , Pats and Jets...maybe?

WTF was with the Bolts tonite? If they only showed up at the start of the game they may have had a half of chance in winning. The only thing that separates the Raiders and the Chargers is a couple of skull and crossbones and 450 miles.

The Ravens overall are the better team not matter how overrated their defense is. They should have and could have won that game yesterday. The Ravens need to target a goddamn receiver in the 2010 draft for once so they don't have to deal with shithead Clayton dropping GIMME passes in crunch time, how sad. That's going to be their death knell this season no matter how good Flacco is playing.

 @ the Chargers comment.

Three things that suck about NFL officiating now:

1. Way too sensitive with roughing the passer calls. They wear pads for a fucking reason. Even Trent Dilfer called bullshit on that Tom Brady call.

2. The standard for a completed catch has become totally asinine. If you don't get up with the ball inside of your ass hole, it's a dropped pass.

3. Unnecessary roughness calls on things that should just go down as good, clean, hard-hitting football. What this does is prevents deep backs from trying to make big plays to change the game, trying to break up passes with contact.

Amen.

I'm thinking he was talking about Ngata's hit the the head of Brady that was clearly just his arm smacking the helmet. It wasn't like he was trying to clothesline him or anything.

Also muz seriously, Pats are not top 3 of the AFC.

Colts - Jets - Ravens

Just because a team had a better GAME doesn't mean they're a better TEAM.

Agreed.

Wow. I agree with all of that.

And yes Bears should be rated higher than the Packers. Bears should have won that game. But Cutler had the worst game of his life

Not even close! The Chargers are a real team with some injuries, and some good players that seem to be on the downside of their careers. The most consistent thing about the Chargers has always been their inconsistency and seeming lack of ability to play a full 60 minutes of football. They give away big leads, and come back from big deficits all too often.

I think next year will officially be the start of larger changes for the Bolts.

The Raiders are just truly pathetic.

I agree with 1 and 3. I don't know where you are coming from with #2.

Don't get me wrong...I think the league is way over doing it as far as protecting the QBs. They only need to watch and call the blatant cheapshots that are given...call these wether or not a QB gets hurt...its more the intent? Like it or not, this is todays NFL..as long as the refs are fair and consistant for both QBs. I think calls went both ways for the Pats & Ravens in the game...be them bogus calls or not.

Not just judging one game, the Ravens may well be a better team than the Pats...but its close. The fact that the Pats defense has been very good...or atleast much better than I thought it would be. This, along with actually beating the Ravens should count for something...jeez.

@ AchrisK- I was kinda joking about the Chargers comments...they are and have been way ahead of the Raiders...its not close.:)

@KD-I would drop those teams mentioned only cause I think they need to sustain winning a bit more...its easy to get excited for some of the sexy teams right now. Who knows, some may well be the real deal even now?

SIs top ten from Peter King who is a pretty good writer. Not that I totally agree...its all subjective...thought I'd throw it out...

1 Saints
2 Giants
3 Colts
4 Vikings
5 Broncos
6 Jets
7 Pats
8 Ravens
9 Steelers
10 Packers

I bet the lions are shaking their heads for not picking Mark Sanchez. Matthew Stafford is heading in the direction of Alex Smith if he don't get his shit together. The Defense is really sucking ass too.
No way, you've got to look at the supporting casts. Stafford played a pretty respectable game yesterday in spite of some mistakes due to inexperience, and that they started inside the 20 just about every time either due to kickoff penalties or good punts. You could argue that Sanchez will be better in the long run, but that pick is already looking defensible. A lot of QBs looked lots worse in their fourth career start, and no one else has took over for a team that finished 0-16 the previous year. I didn't think Stafford would be very good, but he's showed enough to make me think he will be in the top half of QBs in three years, and probably a serviceable starter for quite some time. Detroit is going to struggle to compete in that division for a long time regardless.

Good time for the bye for the Bears. They were extremely thin at LB, and they should be getting two guys back in time for ATL in two weeks. That should be a good game.

Well, so far the Packers game is kinda bad. Brent is lighting them up. They have been doing a great job stopping the run, though.

Also, there have been zero penalties on the vikings even though there was a clear personal foul, block in the back, and hold. The refs called defensive pass interference on Woodson's pick in the endzone which was totally ludicrous as well. I know the offsides negated that but still, terrible call.

Packers need to stop it up. Rodgers has made some unusual mistakes today.

I agree with 1 and 3. I don't know where you are coming from with #2.

The new rule is that in order for it to be ruled a catch, you have to maintain possession even after you've had two feet in bounds (or something like that). Regardless it's retarded rule.

Well...he was a deer caught in the headlights. If you're talking about the sack I'm thinking of, there really wasn't much he could do. The pressure came to him so fast and had such a good line right to him that he really didn't have any other option than to tuck. That was just great defense taking advantage of a slightly wounded o-line.

I agree with you and at the same time I still find arguments like this very fascinating because we'll get to see first hand who will become better.

Look at it this way whoever was saying Sanchez is better: Peyton Manning set the record for interceptions thrown as a rookie and look at where he is now. Ironically, Stafford walked into a similar situation that Peyton was in; he took over a shit team with a good running back and a stud receiver. It's up to him to put in the work to get better while the front office brings in the talent. Stafford can only do so much.

hey Pack, good job putting pressure on Favre. sending 3 or 4 does absolutely nothing.

Yep, that was a horrible display. But it's been a major problem for them all year.

I'd say two or three of the sacks were because he held onto the ball too long. And the line is more than slightly wounded, it's decimated and horrible. It takes fantastic plays by Rodgers to do anything at all on offense.

Newsflash! Green Bay isn't that much better than the mediocre team they were last year.

Actually I disagree with that. They were better than mediocre last year and I think they just need to figure out how to play in the 3-4. They stopped the run excellently and now need to figure out how to get a pass rush.

And if Rodgers could even have a mediocre offensive line, he's as good anyone imo.
