Onder's chilli (*21.1.2014)

I'm less enterprising as you guys. Just ordered 4 bottles of...

First one turning red. It's the smallest one. It's a scout. A pyoneer.

Alright. I was away for few days and it now appears it's time to harvest some 20 little bitches already. The yellow Cayenne ones are matte and almost look like made of wax, not like something to eat. The Takanotsume red ones are on the other hand fucking shiny and have the color of child blood. Here is the documentation.

So I just realized I have posted the pictures of my first harvest on Facebook but not here which is pretty unfair considering this thread documents my plants since the absolute beginning. So here. These pics are from july 23 and since then more peppers have turned colorful on the plants so I'm gonna have some more tomorrow.

Some jalapenos in my hand.

Basically, what I'm gonna do now. It's not really planting season now, but I decided I would plant the next generation of those yellow bitches anyway just so I continue the heritage of my best plant right away. Then in december I'm gonna plant new models when the time's right.

Good looking chilis man. Freezing is another option to preserve some of them for the off season. My harvest this year isn't much for chilis. I got like 7 Anaheims and the rest of the plant didn't produce. There may be 1 or 2 jalapenos on their way.

My best producing plant ever was a Serrano plant though, I got hundreds off of that thing.

I let my plants die and yesterday my mother couldn't go on in this wasteland and she got rid of the dry corpses. This here is the last picture I took.

R.I.P.

So the story goes. This is the end of the 2014 season. What once thrived now is rotting. We will all rot so fucking whatever.

Today I received the seeds of two new varieties I'm going to plant in 2015. One is called Kaval and the other is Bhut Jolokia Peach. I will also attempt once more to germinate the Red Habanero and TMS. All will begin on 20th of this month (well, half of it - just the chinense varieties). Here's a look on my seed menu. You can't see too much on that picture but fuck you it's fucking seeds.

The pack on the left is seeds I collected from my best plant, the Cayenne yellow. I intend to grow its children and continue the bloodline. Long story short, this is gonna be my second generation of Cayenne and I hope to keep the population alive by replanting the seeds of the new one etc. Here they are as I collected them.

I will have to go in a minute but I just want to report in and say that today the 2015 season officially started by planting some seeds in a wet cloth. I didn't do it like this the last year so I'm hoping this is a better technique. I expect a higher germination rate.

2x Trinidad Scorpion Moruge
2x Habanero Red
4x Bhut Jolokia Peach
4x Kaval

Those are all great peppers. Have you tried growing cherry bomb peppers? I did that 2 years ago and failed miserably. I did everything I thought I should, and was unrewarded

That sucks. No I've never tried that kind. What went wrong?

Today I bought a substrate and I'm thinking about getting a light but they're sort of expensive.

I had the same problem last year with cherry peppers. Everything else grew but those, I even tried growing a 2nd set of them, no germination even. Maybe we bought them from the same website? (seedsnow.com)

Onder: Wow going all in on those Scorpions. Do you like that much heat on your food? I guess if you dilute it you can get a lot of sauce.

This year I'm going to try and maximize pepper mass obtained. I like sauteed jalapenos with breakfast and such so I'll probably grow a bunch of those and maybe some bells and serranos (serranos are a highly productive variety in my experience).

Yeah don't buy one of those 'grow lights' you can make your own for a lot less. Check out videos on youtube.

I bought shop lights, a couple blue or natural high lumen bulbs, hung them from a shelf and surrounded it with tinfoil to increase the light on the plants. The whole set up is like less than 40 dollars US.

I followed this guy's plan, a bit modified:

Truth to be told I haven't had anything hot in about 1 or 2 months because I had troubles with my bowels. I think I will keep this hobby even in case I never return to eating anything spicy. Last year the Moruga Scorpions didn't germinate so I'm trying again. Maybe the seeds are dead, who knows.

I have to say that my Jalapenos Delicias were my favorite pepper from last year because of their perfect fruity taste and just a slight heat.

I like this guy's shit. Well the light I will probably buy costs like 50 usd and they say it doesn't get hot under it and that it saves electricity too so why not. Then I need a cable and that's pretty much it. I will buy make some tinfoil shader above it too but that will cost nothing. I have a microphone stand that I will probably use to hold it above. I might look after some PVC tubes but that's not important at the moment.

I have 3 fucking peppers germinating already and I need to act quickly. I need to get that fucking light.

EDIT: I'm surprised how cheap the timers are. They cost like 5 dollars and they're all you need to make the lights go 18/24 or whatever you want.

First pictures from this year's season. I intervened a little. :)
