Opeth Discussion

I was referring to someone else... I think his name is Gaahl or something... he's gay and in a popular black metal band. I'm sure someone will post a pic of him... I'm lazy, I know.

Which lyrics? I only noticed some of the 'To Bid You Farewell' lyrics posted, but indeed, I would consider that one of their best songs, everything WORKS in that song IMO. I feel like everything kind of works on 'Morningrise' in general except for the 'Black Rose Immortal' trainwreck........... and of course, that's the one track everyone freaks out over while forgetting the rest of the album.

I'm probably one of the few big opeth fans who realises how shit Black Rose Immortal is... it really puts me off Morningrise as an album because it dominates it so much.

The lyrics that No Country posted and then were subsequently discussed.

What the hell people? "Black Rose Immortal" may be a little overlong, but it has some of the most memorable parts of that whole album.

The parts of it are awesome, however, I can see the distaste people have for it, even tho i like it. It is like several similar songs just all put on one track.

You should listen to Running Wild since a good quarter of the riffs in that song are RW riffs. :p Which is completely bizarre, but it's true.

Also 'Advent' = best song. IMO.

Saying that Opeth is boring = kk cool thats your opinion, whatever floats your boat

Saying Opeth is repetitive = lol are you a fucking retard or have you only listened to the grand conjuration?

BWP is my favorite, with Still Life as a very close second. The Moor is probably my favorite song though.

I tend to like later Opeth the best so far, mainly the material off Deliverance and Ghost Reveries, but I've also liked the Watershed, Blackwater Park, and My Arms, Your Hearse material.

i like them. they're a great band, but far from bein the best. there are hordes of Opeth-fanboys out there, which can be quite annoying. i'm a fan of them since Orchid came out and up until now they release lots of brilliant songs, these ones being my favourites:

Karma
Godhead's Lament
The Twilight Is My Robe
Dirge For November
Credence
Advent
Epilogue
When
April Ethereal
Moonlapse Vertigo
In Mist She Was Standing
Baying Of The Hounds
To Bid You Farewell
The Lotus Eaters
A Fair Judgment
Blackwater Park
Windowpane
The Amen Corner
Benighted
Harvest

MAYH is my favourita Opeth-album by far and surely one of my top 5 albums of all times. i've seen them live two times, and both times they managed to play a phantastic show with lots of energy and tons of atmosphere.

Morningrise and MAYH have always been my favourites, even if I've gone off a lot of the later stuff (especially the last album which I liked for about 5 minutes) I can still come back to those 2 earlier albums, even if its just for nostalgia, nevermind the fact that there's actually some very strong material on them both. Maybe I just got fed up with them cause I saw them twice and neither time did they play The Night and the Silent Water. meh, I still think the best thing Mikael ever did was the vocals on Brave Murder Day.

I'm hard pressed to find a more multifaceted vocalist then Akerfeldt. His work with Bloodbath, old Katatonia(as stated above)and even his guest vocals with Porcupie Tree and Ayreon are without blunder. His live perfomance is also phenomenal.

I don't like his growling or singing these days, he feels like too much of a showman instead of an artist. Too smooth and without any room for errors. Any scream from Brave Murder Day completely floors any vocal of his from Watershed IMO
