Opeth going down the tubes? ...

A little harsh, Damnation was great, BWP was good.

Yeah, I'll make an exception for Damnation. I made a post on the Opeth Myspace group about how Deliverance was contrived, and it seemed the boys' hearts were into Damnation, and everyone jumped down my throat. Then a couple weeks later Mikael says in that interview he thought Deliverance was bordering being boring, and he blames that on them being more interested in Damnation.

I thought it was pretty easy to tell.

BWP was "good", but not great, or phenomenal, hence they are going down the tubes. With each progressive release the quality of the music is degrading. Of course that is my opinion. I have a bit of hope for the next one though. I didn't before, but after reading that interview and saw they were putting more effort into the "details", which to me in general means more effort into it anyway, I kind of got my hopes up that perhaps the next one might be pretty damn good.

I think Damnation showed, with practice (lacking from Deliverance and BWP) and deffinate ideas for songs they are still great. I ahve great hopes for this album as A: Mike wrote before they went into the studio B: they practiced beforehand (giving the other guys more time to get a feel into the music)
