alright ladies... Im starting to get pretty sick of all this hypocritical nonsense you guys sling every which direction when tour news of Opeth pops up.

A good portion of you all say you are for more exposure for Opeth, and think they deserve success, blah blah blah....but VERY FEW of you are willing to see them tour with mainstream or non DeAtH AnD BlACk Br00Taul Bands. If Opeth continues to become more and more popular, and get a larger and larger fanbase, then how exactly do you expect them to continue to tour with small time bands like "novembre" or "woods of ypres" or even Katatonia or Agalloch for that matter? its not going to happen. All of you can pretty much right now FORGET the idea of Opeth continuing to do much touring with underground/european/extreme metal acts. Im sure they will still do occasional tours with bands like Nile, Morbid Angel, Dimmu Borgir, etc etc...but for one of the up and coming highest grossing metal exports of all time to resort to touring with a bands like Agalloch is just not a reality...not for the band...not for their record label...not for their touring/revenue quota.

So any of you who arent willing to put up with these so called "nu metal" bands like throwdown, norma jean, lamb of god, unearth, etc etc (which by the way, they arent nu metal...get a clue)...need to start getting a grip on reality and re-evaluate where your priorities and support for this band lie.

Im not a fan of a single band other than Opeth listed on that tour...but as long as it doesnt cost me an arm and a leg, id go to see Opeth. Everyone has the right to do or not to do that same thing...but to continue to whine about it is pointless, childish and blatantly isnt going to change a thing.

[*clap*]

I don't really care what overseas tours and festivals Opeth go on. As long as they come down here and headline again I'll be happy. As long as they don't play Big Day Out they are still respected.

Fuck that...

I want a bloody headlining tour, not some shitty 18 band tour...

(added)
I understand that the guys have to pay their bills, and I realize that touring with underground death/black metal bands wouldn't do much for them, but come on Opeth. You deserve better than to do a month long tour with a bunch of crappy metalcore and NWOAHM bands, and have a haf hour set in front of a bunch of hardcore kids who've never heard of you before...
I could care less if they toured with 2 or three of these bands as support in headlining tour, but Opeth simply being lumped in with the rest of these bands in unjustifiable...
I missed the Lamentations tour, and I've been waiting for over a year for another headlining tour... When it was confirmed on their website that there was going to be a summer tour, I was excited beyond belief... but now...
Personally, I won't be going. It's not worth it to be surrounded by all the dumbasses who will surely attend this tour.
And I don't think I could stand to see some kid hardcore dancing to Masters Apprentice.

Christ. Virtually noone here is actually happy that Opeth is coming to play, and they have the opportunity to see them. The only thing people want to do is complain about who they are playing with. Be grateful for what you get! If you dont like it, dont go; but DONT whine and complain when not everyone even has the opportunity to go.

Like I said, I wouldn't mind seeing any of those bands SUPPORTING Opeth in a tour. I just personally just don't want to sit through hours of shit misic to catch a short Opeth set that wouldn't do them justice. If they get i bigger time slot on the tour I might go, but if they don't I'll just wait for a headlining tour.
That is all.

And I wasn't expressing unhappiness... more like dissapointment

Even though Opeth is not the most popular band on that list, to me it just seems ridiculous for them to be opening. It just doesn't seem right to me. They should definitely do a headlining tour.

Gwar headlining makes me laugh, if this is the tour i think id be content, not happy but not disapointed, i fucking love gwar, opeth dwarfs every one of those bands though. Fuck lamb of god. norma jean isnt that bad too. Id probably like to see unearth. They arent that bad. Gwar + Opeth = Chaos

EXACTLY. The only person to 'get it' so far this thread, no offense to anyone else. Opeth want to get bigger. You don't -really- get bigger with a headlining tour.

While I wouldn't mind seeing Lamb of God, and Strapping Young Lad... going to see Opeth again would be awesome. I hope they will get enough time to play a decent set, but I don't see that happening... I still may try and go if it ends up having a show in the FL area.

That being said, I can't believe no one mentioned Clutch yet! Man I love those guys. I saw them in Tallahassee last August and they played two sets (and they have their own side project band they opened up with.. for themselves). So I saw about a two and a half hour show and I think the ticket was 12 dollars. I wish more bands would do that. Hearing songs off Elephant Riders and stuff... that was cool live.

(edited to remove excessive use of "Man!" :| )

ok maybe three shitties was too much...Norma Jean is just shitty IMO. I get a headache when I listen to their music with the distorted vocals, and breakdown after breakdown after breakdown......and I never said I had a problem with the show, as long as Opeth gets more than 10 minutes onstage...cool :err:

funny looking tour. I'll hit it up if Opeth doesn't do any shows before or soon after. Or I might just hit it up anyway because the tickets are cheap.

But it's so weird seeing Opeth with a bunch of bands that I don't think come close to Opeth's music.

...That's why I love you so much.
