Kirk Hammet's guitar playing does not deserve this much discussion. I'm not saying he's bad, in fact he's quite good, but damn...

Kirk Hammett is (was?) good at what he had to do. The solos he wrote on the first 4 albums (ok, not KEA cos of Mustaine blah de blah) just fit in the songs. Sure he's not in the same league as Vai or Satch when it comes to technique or even originality, but that doesn't mean you have to say he sucks or whatever.
I put it like this, not in my top 10 guitarists of all time, but definitely in my top 10 influences - easy to pick up, and a great beginners guitarist.
And as for the solo in One - it's over-rated in terms of how hard it is, everyone has this big hang up over it. But I still think it's a good guitar solo - sits in the song right, runs at the right pace, has a couple of good licks. The main thing is, One would be crap if it had a Mustaine solo, the guy just trys to hard.
Bob Rock was the worst person Kirk Hammett ever met, from the Black album on he totally changed his style for the worse. Thank god he's not producing the new album, maybe we might actually get another classic?! (heres hoping!)
Do we have a perfect first post? I think so.Ultroniar said:First post, oh yeah.

I think this is what we're all trying to say, in a very objective manner.
