Perfect Metal Albums?

that's cool, I just can't believe that he would bash me for my music taste in liking (early) necrophagist, when he listens to killswitch engage and cradle of filth

Well we've had this debate before... I don't like Necrophagist because it sounds... what's the word I'm looking for... well it sounds like "hey guys let's be totally brutal and technical one minute and the next lets transition into Yngwie style endless soloing". For me that kind of death metal just doesn't have heart like the old scool shit did. Now I can't stand KSE myself but I do like the first 4 Cradle albums though I can't stand the new stuff (as I've said before).

'perfect' applies to only one album I know: Samael - Ceremony of Opposites (Reissue with Rebellion EP)

Wyrd - The Ghost Album comes close though

one of the best death metal albums released since 1999

Thanks for proving my point. According to your original argument, Necrophagist is the best tech melodic brutal death metal band evarrrrr. And are far greater to Cannibal Corpse, even if, according to you, literally half of their discography (literally because they only have two albums) is shit.

necrophagist solos on "onset..." are beyond description in their greatness. They sound like yngwie solos if he knew how to play with any feeling

there's one solo on one of the songs is like 2 minutes long, and IT'S NOT NEARLY LONG ENOUGH!!

necrophagist - onset of putrefaction
tiamat- wildhoney
novembre - materia
sepultura - beneath the remains
slayer - show no mercy

that quote is nowhere near as bold as it seems, you probably couldn't even name 20 truly great death metal albums since 1999

Actually I couldn't either... I can think of maybe 6-7? The best DM was late 80's early to mid 90's.
And yeah Necrophagist... snooze... but whatever if you like it cool.

my top 5 DM albums since 99 would be something like augury "concealed", deteriorot "in ancient beliefs", necrophagist "onset of putrefaction", Behemoth "zos kia cultus", Nile "annihilation of the wicked"

anyways, Tiamat - wildhoney is an obvious choice for me as it some of the best atmospheric metal/rock I have ever heard

same thing with novembre although novembre is alot more depressing but still beautiful

I listened to the song someone mentioned the other day ("Advanced Corpse Tumor") and it didn't impress me at all. I hate shit that's so 'technical' that you can't even nod your head anymore because it's gone off into some masturbation forgetting about the band itself.

I know I'm in the minorty here (I don't play the guitar, I don't care about how wacky and unfitting a solo someone can throw in the middle of an otherwise fine song) but I prefer solos like
Blaze - Kill And Destroy (2:52)
Centinex - A War Symphony (intro)
Children Of Bodom - Everytime I Die (2:42)
In Flames - Only For The Weak (2:58)
Vehemence - I Didn't Kill Her (intro)

nice sounding but simple > complex mix of feces

I have alot more "tolerance" for uber complex guitar solos than most people here, the man in my sig makes necrophagist's guitarist look like a scrub in terms of technical proficiency, and he's an awesome guitarist

edit: I suppose it's more of an acquired taste to be able to follow and enjoy music like necrophagist? their music is not accessible to the untrained ear

Yes but Paco's music is also quite a bit more tasteful.

so what is your complaint of the band? the riffs flow very nicely from one another, the drumming is excellent (plays alot of interesting rhythms), the music is pretty catchy/memorable, and the solos have alot of feeling to them

My complaint is just the opposite of what you mentioned!
It doesn't seem memorable... it sounds contrived. But hey whatever... if you like it good for you.

maybe. Death Metal ain't worth training my ear for though, I'll stick to the Steve Vai's and Brahms' of the world.
