I personally found most of the vocals on GDOW much more grating than on DMDS.

Those spoken word passages were terrible. I still think DMDS has worse sounding vocals though.

I like Immortal well also.
Why does no one mention Damned In Black? That is one of my favorite Immortal albums. I never thought of Heart of Winter and SOND as black metal.

I also like Darkthrone - Ravishing Grimness, but I see it is not well respected here either. I find Plague Wielder slow and boring. Transylvanian Hunger was okay, and Under a Funeral Moon was better, but not great.

I will give Burzum - Filosofem another listen, I didn't like it at first.

Bathory must have been really different on earlier albums compared to Nordland. I have Nordland and hate it.

DMDS is only the best if you haven't heard a lot or any other black metal. Attlia's vocal style i don't mind but the album gets fucking boring. Gayhem's best release though and it's cool to play every once in a while.
