I'm not going to deny Mayhem being an influence on Watain, Ondskapt or DsO but I feel the albums I mentioned are much greater works of art than DMDS.

Agreed. Those three albums > anything Mayhem has done.

Oh and I'd also like to mention Dolorian if they count. They're more like black/doom but they make produce some excellent dark music.

I'd probably place DMDS 4th on my list, after only what I mentioned earlier. I guess I prefer those 3 because aside from being great metal albums, they are so deep...like a religious experience I suppose.

These "name your favorite black metal albums" topics always blow my mind. :yuk:

DMDS is chock full of filler and features some of the worst vocals in metal history. It's Mayhem's best studio album though, which reflects very poorly upon Gayhem's musical accomplishments.

Ondskapt is a total Mayhem ripoff. The new DSO.....not at all.

Darkthrone- Under a Funeral Moon

they're in no particular order and there are probably more, but i'm tired of thinking about it.

I'm pretty sure early Bathory has been metioned, if not:

Mütiilation - Remains of a Dead, Ruined, Cursed Soul

I didn't think anyone was going to add this to a list that seems to be overflowing with every fucking BM release known to man.

Not every one was among the best.
