I've always loved the 70s prog thing, and FUUCCKKK is this song good, those super retro synths give me such a chub. Let no one say I only listen to metal and condemn everything else, cuz this stuff fucking rules - I'm really not too familiar with Floyd, so I wouldn't know where to start with their discog.; any suggestions? For reference, I really don't like blues, but I love this atmospheric, melancholy, ambient stuff...

Also, I love the Emerson Lake and Palmer I've heard that has the similar sounds, so any recommendations there would be great too!

Money isn´t a good reference for Dark Side, i really like the song, but is too "out" of what the album is. i don´t like their first records, and i love songs where gilmour sings, check Time one of my favorite songs,, check their DVD`s, Echoes is Stellar, Another Brick in the wall has some excelent tunes too. Momentary lapse of Reason is excelent too.

That's the main reason I like pink floyd (that and David Gilmour's solos) and it's one of my favorite bands. Pretty much the only band I like that doesn't play metal. Dark side of the moon has some awesome songs (us and them is my favorite) in it but personally I prefer (and recommend) "Wish you were here", "Animals", "Momentary lapse of reason" and "The division bell". "The wall" also has some amazing songs (hey you, comfortably numb, goodbye blue sky) but I'm not sure I'd recommend the whole album.

You could also check out "Pulse", which is live, for a collection of some of their best songs. In my opinion Pink Floyd perform their songs live as good, if not better, as the studio versions.

I have a 3 cd-changer in my home stereo and one tray is permanently occupied by the "Wish you were here" CD for at least 5-4 years now, I never take it out even if I don't listen to it that much anymore.

I like King Crimson a lot. The soundscapes Robert Fripp created/creates with his guitar are so epically beautiful.... and at times hard to swallow. Their rather stripped-down early records are great, too.

Check out the version of Echoes from the live at pompei dvd.

So fucking groovy. I expect SOMEONE has ripped the audio. Buy the dvd though, its a beast.

Since "Welcome to the Machine" is one of the few Pink Floyd songs I can always enjoy without needing to be in a particular mood first, you might also enjoy my other faves, "Time" and "Have a Cigar". Machine & Cigar are from the same album, Wish You Were Here, so you might start there in general.

Aaaaaargh Marcus, immediately get the p.u.l.s.e dvd! It brings everything together on a perfect way. I love Pink Floyd!!! And "welcome to the machine" is a great song.

The "wish you were here" album is one of my fave records of all time! "shine on you crazy diamonds" is also a reason, why I love music generally! I don´t have english words to describe it.

Awesome guys, thanks for all the tips - Spotify to the rescue! :D

I don't think Pink Floyd are on Spotify, from what I can see there's various covers but no actual Floyd themselves.

Might be a regional thing like, but a lot of classic rock bands are missing from Spotify, no Zep, no Beatles and no Tool.

I seem to be the only person in existence that doesn't like The Wall in the slightest.
Probably Roger Waters' yelping or something. It just bores me. I really don't think it even comes CLOSE to anything else the floyd put out before it.

Also Marcus, check out Piper At The Gates of Dawn, the album they did with Syd Barret. Listen to it with headphones. It's so unsettling, it's a pure fucking lolzfest.
From a producery standpoint it's great, because it was just after the birth of stereo, so the panning is really fucking stupid. Drums panned really close into your left ear and vocals way off in the distance in the right and everything else just floating around. Totally ridiculous. Great album too!

Marcus, "old", "bluesy"?!?? Where do you get these adjectives from relating to "Dark Side of the Moon??" lol. That is a masterpiece of an album and I suggest you give it a few thorough listen all the way through! Definitely in my top 5 of all time!
