Pat Travers - Four Play - A box set of the first 4 PT cds re-mastered. Since the Japanese versions of these discs go for outrageous amounts of money on E-bay, I'm glad I waited. Just hope they don't fug up the remastering
(should have this in a couple days)
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings Dub, but from what I've heard this is more like a de-master. The originals actually sound better in one guy's opinion. Research told me that the Rock Solid complilation has much better remastering, but it's just a "best of".

As a sidenote; I was concert de-virginized on Molly Hatchet. 1982, Take No Prisoners tour in Pocatello, Idaho. :headbang:

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! God, I hope not...... I know that there were/are recent remasters by Majestic Rock from Feb. 2004 that are supposed to be horrible, with static and pops/clicks/artifacts but I had seen NOTHING about this set. I'll report back when I get it, I may be digitizing vinyl again in the near future.....crap!

I have the Anthology vol 1 & 2 that were imports in the late 80s early 90's that sound great, but I'm a completist, and I know my vinyl won't hold up forever....

One of the all time BEST shows I ever saw was Molly Hatchet open for the Outlaws in late 79 or 80. What a killer show, and a KILLER evening!

Electric Wizard-Dopethrone
Venom-Black Metal
MC5-Kick Out the Jams

All three of these are great! I discovered the MC5 only recently, but really like it. Dopethrone is a classic, and Black Metal speaks for itself.:headbang:

It arrived today, & they are from Majestic Rock Records.
The verdict? The didgipack long case has a 1 inch tear on the spine, and these remasters sound like dogshit. Helen Keller could have done a better job remastering these cds. There are so many digital artifacts on these discs, that I'm returning them for a refund. The search goes on.... :(

Sorry to hear J-Dub. Your opinion matches all others I've heard: Four Play should have never been made. To make it sound WORSE than the original? What the fuck kind of "remastering" is that? I have a buddy who has burned me a few out of print classics from his turntable. They sound pretty good actually, except the volume is kind of low. I had him adjust the recording volume to compensate on the later recordings.

Remind me to play you some Avantasia when I pass thru this summer, rokk. Avantasia is a side project of Tobias Sammet, the mastermind behind Edguy. The two Avantasias are "metal operas" but they're not overly progressive. It's mostly just straight forward power metal along the lines of Edguy. Killer songwriting on those discs, and alot of different singers.

NP: Wuthering Heights - Within

Cheap Trick(rematered, expanded versions):
In Color
Heaven Tonight
All Shook Up
Marty Stuart - Badlands
Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil
QR - OM:II
Evergrey - MMA
Shooter Jennings - Electric Rodeo
Jorn - The Duke

More missing pieces return to my CD racks. It sure can take a long regrouping losses to exes...
Today I picked up
Slayer Reign in blood
Sodom Better of Dead

The suckers below are in the mail
Absu Tara
Absu Sun of Tiphareth
Sabbat History of a Time to Come

Solstice - Lamentations
Solstice - Halcyon
Solstice - New Dark Age

Astounding stuff! :kickass: On the other hand I'm sad they split, I love that type of doom :erk:

NP: Rival - 'Insane'

Astral Doors - "Raiders Of The Ark": an EP with a couple of songs from the upcoming album "Astralism" and all the bonus tracks they had in Japan :D. A paid a little too much for an EP but I'm a sucker for AD.

Black Steel - "Hellhammer": not as good as the debut but still very solid epic heavy metal from Down Under.

Vhaldemar - "Fight To The End": debut of this band which second album I already have. A mix of power and neoclassical with harsh (but not death-like) vocals, from Spain and sung in English.

Adramelch - "Broken History": the cult Italian band finally released their second album and this is way better! A conceptual album dealing with the crusades and in which the band expand their prog-power sound to higher quality.

NP: Virgin Snatch - 'My Avenger'

How do you like the Evergrey? I think it rocks!

is the DP the 25th anniversary remasters?

J-Dubya

I'm loving the new Evergrey, not understanding those that say they've lost it or sold out....whatever

I don't think the Dp is a 25th special, just a compilation at a great price!:headbang:

You must be fucking rich, Dodens, cause you sure "haul" alot of albums. Friends of Hell sure pulls the cobwebs off some old memories....especially Love on Smack! :headbang:

I got a mini-haul this week. Official copies to replace my downloaded versions of:

Rage - Unity
Rage - Soundchaser

Actually it's more a case of me disovering the vast depths of the internet with money I don't have. I've spent far more than I can afford this year without question.
Gotcha. I can totally relate. Those damn downloads may be free, but they still cost you money in the end.

How do you digest them all? It takes me 4-5 listens before I form an opinion on an album. Whenever I get a "haul" of new albums to listen to, it usually takes me weeks to sort them all out. When you get so many, so often, how do you give them all a fair shake?

in recent weeks:

Camel - Camel
Camel - Mirage
Camel - Snow Goose
Camel - Moon Madness
Camel - Rain Dances
Camel - A Live Album

Free - Tons of Sobs
Free - Highway
Free - Fire and Water
Free - Free
Free - Live!
Free - Free at Last
Free - Heartbreaker

Humble Pie - Rock On
Humble Pie - Smokin'

Wishbone Ash - Pilgrimage

Jethro Tull - 25th Anniverary Box Set (thanks EBay!)

Fleetwood Mac - The Peter Green Blues Years (author of both Green Manalishi and Black Magic Woman)

Jorn Lande - The Duke
Katatonia - Cold Distance
Queensryche - OP MC II

Very good review. I don't know if I can agree with the 80's vibe but most definitively I do agree with the fact they play straightforward heavy metal without many of the ornaments of power/heavy bands of today.

Most excellent stash! BTW you can still go up to "Breathless" I like it a lot and consider it very decent compared to the previous albums.

NP: Forgotten Tales - 'My Soul'
