Primordial - To the Nameless Dead [official thread, wit

Well I've only listened to it twice so far, but I have mixed feelings about it. I could fall in love with it in the next few listenings but something tells me I won't. Although it's very epic and awesome sounding, and the drumming, which I love about Primordial is still nice and tribal and catchy, there's something missing. There are no really steller, stand-out songs like The Coffin Ships or End of All Times, which when I heard them just once I fell in love. Nothing is really standing out to me.

However I will keep listening... it is still good. It is still Primordial.

After indulging in the bands entire discography over the course of the past several weeks I feel confident in saying that TGW is on the weaker end of the spectrum.

Maybe it needs a few more spins for you but I can honestly say that now when Gallows Hymn kicks in, it leaves my jaw hanging to the floor. Also the production is just stellar -- listen to when the guitars get amped up on that song and it's like being hit by a wall of sound.

There are actually 3, 4, maybe 5 standout songs on this album already. Too early to compare it to other Primordial releases, but obviously it's better than Storm Before Calm, that much is certain

Yes, too much repetition. And they went more for a melancholy feeling, losing that epic, triumphant vibe that StEA had in spades. Journeys End had a perfect blend of sadness and power. Storm Before Calm was pure rage. A good thing.

I like some of the songs, but it all blends together after a while on TGW. Not their finest by any stretch. AJE and StEA are unbeatable.

That sounds right to me on all counts, except I'm not that crazy about AJE. Maybe I need to listen to that one more. As for TGW, that's the only one I deleted after a few listens. "Skipping" that one probably makes it easier for me to get into the new one, since it's been a while since I've really delved into any new Primordial. (I did re-download "The Coffin Ships" after coming here and finding it at the bottom of a bucket full of RC-semen, but I don't think I've even listened to it again. I shall do that now, I think.)

It's really strange how two people's ears can hear such different things. Because I feel that TGW is not monotonous or anything of the sort. I feel it has perfect highs and lows, great choruses, great drums, pacing... and I feel more passion in those recordings than much else they've done before or since.
I also like the production on TGW because it is somewhere between bad and pristine....It's cozy. =]

I don't know. When it comes down to it it's just differing opinions...but damn! How do you not hear it man?!

I love TGW, especially Coffin Ships of course. Listening to thew new one a few times today, its definitely giving TGW a run for its money. Gallows Hymn is fucking powerful.

I'M A HEATHEN... SEARCHING FOR HIS SOOOUL *Double bass* :kickass:
