Project Studio Build

That can actually be a positive thing. Grab some slanted isolation pads and you might actually reduce the desk's reflections that way :)
Oh in that case.. uhm.. it was totally planned, of course.
 Thanks for the hint, I actually have such pads but I'm afraid they will be too slanted or the stands are too short depending on how you look at it.
But I'll try out and perhaps "build" the pads with a custom angle myself. Haha
Wow. This studio is going to kickass when it is done. I've silently been following this thread. ;)
I may sound like a sissy, but those delays (eg the windows) and just thinking of all the work that's still left to do is somtimes overwhelming.
So thanks man, for keeping me motivated :)

Looks like the windows will be be built in on january 21th. At least, I hope it's gonna work.. the temperatures are said to be below 0°C again then. Damnit.
I'm waiting for the monitor stands' tops to dry at the moment, they will be finished tomorrow. Already look great, I did the second layer of paint today.

The acoustician sent me the plans for the variable diffusor/absorber/reflector unit for the liveroom. I love the concept.

The "lamellae" can be spinned and the unit is either an absorber (the black stuff is acoustic foam) or a diffusor, or even a reflector.. and anything between these three. Niiiicccee :D

That's a really clever design!
Yeah, though I am not yet shure how it should look..
The frame is out of fir boards and will be glazed until it looks "good".
But the lamellae will be MDF boards, and I wonder how I should paint them. Black could look cool, or perhaps white. The acoustic foam will probably be this stuff:

So black MDF boards are probably better than white ones. The acoustic foam is also available in light grey..
What do you guys think? (Also open for new ideas design-wise)

Oh and I finished the monitor stands. I thought it would look cool to let the top board white but it looked strange so I painted it black, too. The strange pattern is because of the shape of the monitors (their front is angled and you could see the white top before painting the edges black).

Some exotic wood laminate so you can switch between a lively retro vibe and deadened modern feel?

Haha, yeah. Laminate seems like a good idea, I'm just worried about the edges, because you would see the particle board or whatever it is. But I think you can iron the laminate on the edges if it's available in the DIY-store.

PS: Monitor stands are ready. And heavy as fuck (about 40kg) :yow:

Zebrawood would like awesome on those! That, or leopard print!

Loving the stands, and those ADAM's look sexy as fuck. Do want!
 I probably could only record hair metal bands then, but it would be pretty awesome
What did you fill the stands with? They look really nice.
Ha, good question. They were meant to be filled with sand.. turns out you can't get dry sand in the DIY stores.

So it's cat litter. Seriously.

Looks fantastic man :D you are guna have some fun in there when your done, just keep thinking of the end product :D and about how some of us dont have the money or space to build something that looks that great, seriously good luck with it

cant wait to see it finished

HAHAHAHA genial! :worship:

The stands do look very nice... Maybe I should build mine myself too. Had these in mind before http://www.thomann.de/de/ultimate_ms45p2.htm
Yeah I had bookmarked those, too. But they're ridiculously expensive and imho also fugly.
Here are sketches and the measurements for the stands:
http://www.musiker-board.de/studiomonitore-kopfhoerer-rec/387702-staender-fuer-krk-rokit-8-a.html
The top board can be any size, the bottom panel should be 35x35 mininum! I'd make it a bit bigger if I were to build another pair.
I paid 80€ for the MDF boards, the paint, cat litter  and these small rubber feets (so kleine Gummifüßchen wie man sie unter Möbel etc. klebt).
Height is 103cm in my case, the MDF boards are 2,5cm thick.

We almost finished the two mobile gobos.
Still missing are the casters, and the black decor on the edges. The light wooden frame will be wrapped with white (natural white) fabric.
Inside of the gobos are 14 cm (5.5 inch) Isover DP3 glasswool panels.
Cutting the angled side parts with the disk saw scared the shit out of me, but was really not that hard in the end.
The decor I went with is black ash, it has a "natural" structure and is no completely even surface, which I love. You can't see it because it's too dark, though
