Questions to Biomechanical

Here's a question for John: would you ever work with another artist on orchestrations for their album?

I intend to get an epic (and original) metal band together and get signed. With a some ideas in tow that require orchestrations, I couldn't think of anyone better than John K and Ihsahn of Emperor fame to compose the orchestrations with. I'm hoping I'll be on a label with enough clout and faith in the ideas, so if I can get it in the budget, you'll have a real full-blown orchestra at your disposal.

Hey,

The style of orchestration would remind you too much of Biomech so it won't be any good to you but to be honest I think time is the big problem here more that the issue of the stylistic direction.

Hope your band will do well!

John

BONJOUR LES GARS /OO/ !

What cover songs do you play on stage ? Are there any covers that you would like to actually record in a studio for a cd or something ? Who the fuck are these guys ? Would you like fries with that ?

/o/....

Hey Michel,

So far we have played:
The Emperial March
Creeping Death
Raining Blood
Cemetery Gates
Mouth for War
Aces High (Maiden Day @ the Ruskin Arms)
Painkiller

Not sure we would record some but I always wanted to do a version of Blood Red Skies on a b-side or something. It's an awesome track!

Mmmm... Blood Red Skies... Beginning on a whole orchestra only part with the K singing opera style, before the rest of the band joins in like a fist in a face. Yes. Oh yes. /\Ôo/\ Yes.

................Dude, I just can't wait until the day you guys play over here.

Hey Chris you ever get that 13,000 guitar you wanted?

Hey man. PRS are making me my own 7 String. Not sure when it will arrive though as it's private stock and they have a bit of a waiting list.

Basically it's gonna be all black so I'm not having it dressed up like a tarts handbag and not using any fancy woods, so it's not gonna cost me £13000 lol. Although I'm sure it's still gonna sting a bit. I'm also having 2 fat EMG pickups put in it so it should look pretty cool and sound sick as fuck.

As soon as I have it, I'm sure I'm gonna be boasting like a wanker and I'll post some pics of it.

Chris.

Here's a chance for the guitarists to plug their equipment: what's so great about Framus amps? Why did you choose them over other choices - even over the Mesa-Boogies.

Be honest, now! Nevermind the fact that you endorse them.

Lol. Hey man. No I genuinely love Framus amps. I also own a Mesa/Boogie Dual Rec so I promise I'm being honest.:saint:

I've always loved my Boogie and have never been a fan of Marshall amps. However I think Marshalls sound a bit clearer for fast thrash and complicated riffs, but they just lack the Balls that my Boogie's got. I think a lot of it has to do with the valves as Marshalls use EL34's and Boogies use 6L6's. So I've always been drawn to 6L6 amps. I think clean sounds are better on 6L6 amps (just my opinion).

I tried putting EL34's in my boogie but I just didn't like the sound.

With Framus they've pretty much got the blend between the Marshall sound and Boogie sound just right for me.

They use EL34's which gives it that grit and bite but there is a deep control on the power amp stage. And when you wind this up, it has all the balls and bottom end that my dual rec has. Yet when I play the faster and more techincal stuff, I still get the definition. Plus the clean channel is awesome........not that I get to use it much lol.

I still love my Boogie and would never sell it. But even if I wasn't endorsed by Framus, I'd probably still use them for Biomech.

Chris.

Might be totally off the mark here but to the best of my knowledge it'll be only the fourth PRS 7-string in existence?

Yeah I think it is the 3rd or 4th they've ever made. I know it will be the first hard tail one, and the the 1st one to have EMG pickups fitted.

If you're shelling out all that money for such an expensive guitar, why not let the wood of the guitar be heard with passive pickups and get a preAMP instead? Ah, hell, it's your guitar. Post pics when it come in, buddy.

That is a really good point. And one reason I use PRS is the sound they make. But the thing I like about EMG's is they don't produce the same sound on every guitar and I find that the wood of the guitar still affects the sound. When I put the EMG's in my other PRS's the neck pickup almost sounded the same, but the bridge pickup was a lot clearer for Biomechanical's stuff. The Dragon II bridge pickup actually has more output than the EMG 81.

I currently use an EMG 707 in my Gordon Smith 7 string, and I found that most 7 string passive pickups were too muddy for the stuff we do.

Smart man - trial and error won out in the end. I've always heard that the 707s were the hottest of the EMGs. Never heard of the Dragon II pickup, though. I've always heard PRS getting mixed reviews: either people really love them or really hate them. I have yet to try one, myself.

You guys really are the dogs bollocks in metal. Was wondering what amps u guys use, and how you get those amazing sounds.

Thanks for the words buddy,

I can only tell you studio wise as I did the recordings for both albums

For the recording of Eight Moons we used a combination of JMP pod (Marshall) and a guitar pod (don't remember the make).

For the Empires we used the Pod Line 6. We worked a lot on the sounds and used exciter and a lot of EQ-ing to get the guitars to sound a bit wider (this is the main problem that I find with pods).
Then Andy Sneap re-EQed and used some of his plug-ins to make them sound the way they do.

Hey man. Live, Jamie and I use Framus Cobra heads with Cobra cabs.

Effects wise I use a Line 6 POD XT LIVE through the effects loop. The Cobra heads have midi interfaces so I also use the POD to switch the channels on my amp. I don't use any of the amp sounds on my pod. I only use the delays and chorus so all the amp sounds come from the Cobra head.

Wow! And hear I thought you guys used live amps in the studio. What's strange is that you say the setting for Eight Moons was on "Marshall" yet it sounds just like a Rectifier. You guys really know how to manipulate that technology! :worship:

Was the photo of the Mesa-Boogie in the studio on the website from a studio recording or a demo recording?

Hi there,

We recorded some clean guitars for Distorted, Save Me and Point of No Return.

We thought it would give us a better tone. It did the job but we switched to Pod Line 6 for The Empires and we got very good results.
We used Chris's PRS for the clean parts, it has a great deep tone on the lower register.
