In case anyone missed the sale we've been running for the past few days, today is your last chance to get Recabinet 3 (featuring Speaker Dynamics) for $19.99.

The sale is running for about 8 more hours, so don't miss out!

Everyone better jump on this. Such a killer cab sim, and the 3rd party impulse response coming should be killer! :D

Thanks! To clarify: we are adding third party IR import, as well as panning, in a free update in early 2013. We are also working on AAX Native support, which should launch around the same time.

I've heard great things about your cabinet modeler from close friends, but being a maker of IRs myself, I've never had the need for it. Now that there is talk about there being 3rd party IR support coming... this sounds very tempting! I may need to give you my money.

This is great, looks like I have to send some money to PayPal so I can make this purchase while it lasts! :)

Shane, I got a few quick questions, maybe you can help me with that?

1) I guess Recabinet outputs mono even though it has two channels, right? They are just blended more or less into each other, aren't they?

2) I'll be upgrading to Cubase 7 from Cubase 5 once it comes out. I plan on using VST Amp Rack for scratch guitars but I've never tried it so far. From what I've read the cab on VST Amp Rack can be bypassed but I'm not sure about the microphone. Well, it should be possible once the Cab is bypassed but you never know... Since you are a Cubase user yourself maybe you can give me a hint on that?

3) You heavy is Recabinet on the CPU?

If anyone can recommend me any free (Pre)Amp sims for Mac besides the LePou stuff that would be great. Haven't looked into this kind of stuff for a while so I'm not really sure what's hot atm.

Cheers

Kazrog will probably answer your other questions but for me, Recab is very light on CPU.

As for ampsims, I think TSE is a freebie?

I use my amp head for direct recording so I'm not up on the latest sims out there either.

If it's on a mono track, it outputs mono. If it's on a stereo track, it behaves as two duplicate mono instances of itself (one on left channel, on on right channel.) When we introduce panning next year, we'll allow for mono->stereo routing as an option.

Yes, you can definitely disable the cabinet sim in VST Amp Rack. I've played around with it a bit myself.

3) You heavy is Recabinet on the CPU?

By today's standards, Recabinet is pretty light on the CPU. I've been able to run over 60 mono instances on my Mac Pro in testing prior to release of the current version.

glad the sale got extended, as i totally didn't see this the other day

will definitely be buying the upgrade tomorrow when i get paid!

Looks like it's Windows only. :-/

Thanks for the answers Shane. I just figured out I could download the Demo to give it a test run. Sounds pretty sweet although I still need some Post-EQ for what I've tried so far. That's not a bad thing though.

I can fully vouch for Recabinet if amps sims are your thing. Other than the sound, the GUI is by far the most user friendly cab IR loader I've used.

Awesome news onqel. I have played a little bit with the R47 recently, I never used a rat type of pedal before, and in some cases, I quite like it !

I can't wait to be able to use TSE amp sims with Recabinet in OS X myself, actually. Whenever I'm doing Windows testing, I spend quality time with TSE sims into Recabinet.

Thanks for the hint on the Mac versions!

Shane, do you have any recollection as to have far "far" (or "close") was in the recording sessions for Recabinet?

My latest Rat-emulation, TSE R47, is built for Mac (VST/AU), I will build Mac versions of my plugs from now on. The older releases might see the OSX platform as well

That would be awesome man!!!

Regarding Recabinet: I bought it yesterday, haven't had much time to play around with it, but so far I like it! Also agree that it's very easy to use.

Actually, it varies between the different cabinets and mics, hence the general terminology. Generally, close is between 0.5" and 1", mid is somewhere between 1" and 4", and far could be 6" to 1' away (sometimes even more.)

It depends on what was the most tonally balanced out of what was captured. So often, IR libraries (including the Recabinet 2.0 library, IMO) include more options than you could ever wade through during a project, with many of the IRs being duds - strange sounds you would never choose if you were doing an actual recording session. This kind of clutter eats up valuable time and stifles the creative process.

I can honestly say that I've put playing and mixing time in with every single IR in the Recabinet 3 library, and I will continue to do so with future expansions to the library itself. These are handpicked IRs culled from much bigger sessions.

It makes far more sense that way - as an analogy: can you imagine a drum sample library where the creators didn't bother listening to the sounds they were capturing in the studio, instead just visually chopping the samples and saving the drums to disk, assuming it would sound great?
