Recabinet

Considering how quickly he turned around and fixed shit up I'd say it wasn't a fiasco so much as a hiccup - Vista's been out for almost two years and they're still trying to make it an actual operating system...

For the record, I was kidding Kazrog with my last line there. Sorry that wasn't conveyed more clearly. :) And I agree completely that Vista sucks!

From first test, I think the Ghandi 412 sounds pretty good. But after reading the ReValver discussion about using the amp with the power section included or the preamp only, I can't decide what is correct! It really alters the sound a LOT! Kazrog, what's your suggestion?

Technically, using just the preamp simulation in Revalver is "correct" when using Recabinet impulses. However, good sounding results can be obtained either way. We are working on an update that will include solid state powered impulses for use with the AxeFX, Revalver, and any other amp sim software or hardware that simulates tube power amps procedurally. That being said, the AxeFX people are totally loving the current library - so again this is all very subjective.

Also, do you suggest any type of particular EQ curve after the convolution processor to cut certain high and low frequencies?

That totally depends on the preamp, the impulse response, and the tone you're going for, but generally you can probably hi pass and low pass the perceived "junk" out of the overall guitar sound to taste with your DAW's native EQ plugin, just as you would a raw miked cabinet. Recabinet is designed to be authentic to the sound of a raw miked cabinet, so it leaves any filtering and post EQ "sweetening" up to the individual taste of the users.

Good job. PS... Don't let the 1.04 fiasco happen again!

LOL... It was a big shock after all the hard work on this update. I'm working on defining a more thorough QA procedure to better ensure that bugs don't make it out into the public releases. While this will make for slightly slower updates, it will avoid these kinds of stupid problems in the future.

Haha - this is exactly why I'm trying to get all the process issues worked out NOW while it's still essentially just a library of samples. Once we enter the plugin software realm (which is planned), we don't want to look like total n00bs.

I'm using ReValver.....sorry if I'm a noob but what do you mean "turn off the power tube in the amp" where is that button located ?

thanks and sorry for the ignorance.....

Just one question to you guys using Revalver, are you making sure to turn off the power tube in the amp in Revalver, as the impulses already have poweramp simulation on them?

devouredremains - in spite of extensive testing, it appears that at the last minute, the wrong files have indeed ended up in the distribution of both the demo and the full version on our server. An update will be posted ASAP for both. As it turns out, both sets the "Damien" and "Ghandi" impulses in the demo are in fact the "Damien" cabinet only at the moment. :yow:

Very sorry about this, I can't believe this got out this way, we are working on the updated file distribution right now and I will post when it is ready (later today)! Thanks so much for discovering this file mixup!!

Not a problem at all Shane. I also apologize for posting that publicly. I didn't mean to stir anything up such as individuals deeming it a "fiasco".

No worries, I have a sense of humor about this. Besides, I prefer to handle support stuff via forum rather than email, since it keeps a public record of everything. Thanks again for helping us identify a problem! :kickass:

Well in all fairness, Microsoft have been trying to tie everything up in these grand initiatives, but they can't even get their shit together enough to actually make it a benefit to consumers, rather than a burden. I'm quite happy to forget this whole Vista and Windows Live thing, if only they would!

At least Shane is doing his utmost to iron out all the bugs in his current product before moving on to a grander implementation - more than can be said for Microsoft at the best of times!

Of course Shane is really doing it well, but you can't compare those two things: fixing an OS and fixing a list of files.
Well believe me, fix an OS is not that easy if programmers, before starting development, didn't analyzed all the shit reall well.

sure it didn't read something like '' turn off the built in cab modeler? '', look for a bypass button in the section that you choose your cab and mic etc.

Kazrog, loving the impulses man! couldnt stop laughing when i tried them, the difference compared to all other impulses is immense. my day is now being SPENT looking for a good combi of mics and positions lol :)

On each amp that you drop into Revalver, you can click the tweak button to change the internal settings of the amp. If you click on this, and then click on the poweramp tube (nearest the output) you can then tick the box that says disable this circuit, then click apply, and remember to re set your output volume as it will most likely now be a little higher or lower than it was.

Nope, it was nothing to do with turning off the cab modeller. Also, I'm finding it harder and harder to stomach your posts as your English is appauling. It's a huge pet peeve of mine so I'm sorry if I sound like a complete cock here, but it REALLY gets on my nerves. I know this is the internet and people are lazy, but at least make an effort because your last sentence doesn't even make sense.

Thanks.

Har, recently did a quick test seeing what the difference was on using just the preamp module vs. the full amp module in ReValver MKIII, all other things being equal.

clip 1
clip 2

One of them is the preamp only, the other is the full amp, everything else is identical. To me it seems you are more likely to pick out the differences between changing powertubes in the amps in MKIII long before using preamp+impulse and fullamp+impulse and hearing a big difference. There is a difference though... and FWIW I do prefer the full amp chain.

That would make sense, as the impulse response is just a snapshot of the poweramp (like an EQ basically) from what I understand, while the Revalver poweramp is modelling the response of the poweramp dynamically. Seems like it would also be more of a feel thing then an apparent tone change maybe.
